To be fair, from our experience with Bill Kelso on here and from reading Stuart's Lost Worlds' website - still the worst of all the makers by a long chalk - you could be forgiven for arriving at the conclusion that both are jerks.
The funny thing is, no matter how scunnered you are about the wait for a Good Wear, by the time you've got off the phone from talking to John about what he's going to do with your order, his enthusiasm is so infectious that you can't avoid feeling completely excited again.
Construction methods vary from jacket to jacket, as do the various details - collar stands and shapes, inset sleeves, pocket shapes, etc. John's very good at maintaining the integrity of the original contract within the requests of the customer. Personally, I asked John to keep my Dubow as close...
I know what you mean, Monitor, A-2s are so common that it's hard to get a sense of what's a good un. But with John's, the pics never really do them justice. When I got mine, I was expecting something strong but I really taken aback by the quality of hides, stitching and construction. They...
Brown. It's the most flexible and, in my opinion, the most characterful leather. My brown LHB was my first jacket and it's just got better with every year. It's developed an amazing faded tone across the shoulders from years of backpack wearing.
I have two cordovan jackets, one a tumbled FQHH...
Lovely job. There’s no denying that when you finally get your GW, they are works of art. I recommend throwing caution to the wind and getting straight back into the queue...
The Indy jacket was basically modeled on A-2 with the knits cut off, but crucially also had a very deep bi-swing added to the back - as in you could push your hand in beyond the wrist - and had waist level D-rings added and the cinch belts pulled tight as possible to create that 'super hero...
I personally love my GW A-2. There was no sense of anticlimax when it arrived - it fits like a glove, the craftsmanship is A1 and it looks better with every wear, of which there are many. I’m in the queue for a second now, which may seem mental but what John produces is very special - I’m not...
Not even Savile Row takes orders on faith that the buyer will have the wherewithal to pay on delivery! I actually think this a good thing: instead of paying full-wack at the end, you can defray the cost over a few months' pay cheques.
Well, I was in their showroom mid-morning on the day of the sale, and I just resisted buying an Indian Racer jacket. Beautiful jacket, the only thing that stopped me from doing so was that it wasn't quite me.
Bottom line is: you don't have to join the fun if you don't want to.
I think, to be fair, there were people States-side who genuinely did stay up late for the start of the sale and bought *a lot* of stock very quickly. I went over to the factory mid-morning and a large chunk had already gone, mainly overseas customers, several hours before I got there! To quote...
A message from Aero:
OPEN DAY & SALE
We’re constantly being asked if we’ll ever have another open day, after the resounding success of our event back in 2016… good news is now is the time! We’re happy to announce there’ll be another Aero Open Day and sale in our factory in Galashiels on...
You'd think the one thing we'd be grateful around here is that some have a bit more wherewithal to buy this stuff than others. Imagine if nobody on here could afford more than one jacket. The forum would have fallen into the sea years ago! Don't question it, just be glad!
