Not everything with a thin ribbon is an OR. Originally, the OR was one of many thin ribbon models with slight variations in width, height, and flanging. The OR is a particular combination of those measurements.
I like the look of the ultralight as well. Probably because I have a heather grey hat already. Isn't the nap on heathered felts usually left a bit longer? That's been the case with a lot of the ones that I've seen.
The other minor difference between the two felts that I forgot to mention is that there seems to be some amount of beaver fur in the Royal Deluxe mix. Stetson does not typically disclose what any particular blend is, but Stetson Japan has, at different times, listed the Premier Strat and Whippet...
No pic, but I was also wearing my beaver HJ Poet today. I picked it because it's a bit tighter fitting and a bit heavier. But we are having some nasty winds here today and I got hit by a gust that blew it straight off my head, tumbling about 15 yards and then smacking into a wall. I grabbed it...
No, a Temple will have a longer brim in the front/back. I'm out of guesses. The current Chatham matches the 2 3/8" brim, but not the same ribbon width.
What is the width of the brim? Check if it's the same on the front and the sides. My guess is it's a Temple, and the dimensional brim would confirm. Should be 2 5/8" x 2 3/8".
No argument from me that the Campdraft is the better choice if you intend on using it in any sort of rain.
But to play devil's advocate in the Campdraft thread, if you can find a premier (or Excellent) Stratoliner, I wouldn't be so quick to pass it over. Actually, if you find an Excellent...
Not really, no. You might even make the case for an exchange on this one. Or you can grab some 1000 grit sandpaper and finish off the edge yourself if you're feeling DIY. It really would be an easy fix.
Point of information: when you say you sent measurements, did you request a specific crown height, or did you send the hatter your height and leave the hat's final specs to their discretion?
When I googled Vegan felt, I got a few results that seem to be made of bamboo fibers. If it is remotely comparable to fur felts as far as hats are concerned, sure why not! At the very least someone can tap into a niche market.
Personally I would take the Royal Deluxe. Full disclosure, while I have a RD premier Strat, I don't have a modern felt OR; but, I have handled a few of them in store. I really like the natural felt myself. The 6x will be a bit heavier and much stiffer. The ones I saw at the outlet were just...
