Hello all,
Thought I post a few pics of some military (or military-esque) garments I've found recently in thrift stores.
Garment #1: Is this some sort of bush jacket? I thought at first this was a hunting jacket, with the odd camo pattern, the cut, the waist belt with metal grommets make...
Yeah, the color is so lively it seems like it was taken yesterday. The students might be able to identify with people in them better. B&W is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but it has a sort of distancing effect.
Apparently the Library of Congress has released a large set of their color pictures from the Great Depression and World War Two eras. Here are just two of some of the amazing photos they have listed:
Rosie the Riveter working on Vultee Vengeance dive bombers in 1943
Flight...
Hmmm.... Now I'm confused.
So what's the consensus, is this jacket from the WW2 era or is it clearly post war? USAAF or USAF? Anybody have pics of it in use during the 50s/ 60s?[huh]
Thanks! I had a feeling that's what it was. I'm having trouble finding a period picture of one of them being worn. Anybody have a picture or a link to a good Air Force collectibles resource site? Thanks again.
Anyone have the foggiest idea what this is? Seems to be 40s or 50s era based on the cut and buttons. The thrift store I found it in has plenty of vintage US Army/ Navy/ Air Force militaria come through it but also some nice European, Middle Eastern and Asian stuff. Only tags in it are the 38L...
According to Wikipedia, even thought 14 of the crew were killed, 29 survived the destruction of the ZR-1 and the wreck itself did not burn because they used helium not hydrogen. Then reason the Hindenburg blew up 10 yrs later, and was even using hydrogen was because the US had the largest know...
Hello all,
I thought some of you might appreciate seeing some great pictures of US Navy airships from the 1920s. My mother in law recently gave me an album full of some anonymous family's snapshots, from somewhere in the New York or New Jersey area, that she found at a flea market a number...
Oh, this is sad news. I first was made aware of Capt. Lockwood when he was prominently featured in the PBS series NOVA and their "Escaping Colditz" episode. Then I went on to read about him in the fantastic "The Colditz Story" by P.R. Reid, a must-read if ever there was one.
Thanks for...
Funny, I have them all taped from the original airings, but I haven't ever watched them again.
I'll probably buy the DVDs now... and not watch them again.:p
They were great little mini-movies as far as I can remember. One other thing I remember is that they were always being preempted...
Anyone out there know which are the best reference guides for United States military uniforms? ideally I'm looking for information on WW1, WW2, the Korean War and the Vietnam War eras. I'm sure that some of the FL experts have some interesting home libraries. I've done some looking on Amazon...
Talk about geeky, I'm currently addicted to the PBS show History Detectives, it's kind of like a cross between CSI and Antiques Roadshow (another favorite). Anyone else watch this?
Believe me, we know, we know...:(
One just has to look to the US headlines to see that most of the DC moralists (which FCC is sadly manned by) are in fact "guilty" of the behavior they themselves are policing. And in recent years PBS has become a target of their concerns.
This is not a...
Found this Wilson Sports Equipment athletic jersey last week at the Salvation Army (which up to now has been a let down). What do you all think, 1930s or 40s? Kind of has a sailor-aesthetic, no?
