Best Reference Guides?

Anyone out there know which are the best reference guides for United States military uniforms? ideally I'm looking for information on WW1, WW2, the Korean War and the Vietnam War eras. I'm sure that some of the FL experts have some interesting home libraries. I've done some looking on Amazon but it's hard to tell if you don't physically see the book.

i think the most comprehensive ww2 uniform book is "doughboy to GI". i think it's not published anymore so you have to find it on the secondhand market and be prepared to spend around $100. but i know that my friends who have it, love it and refer to it often. it's filled with everything that a soldier had available to him. and all the different types of field gear, etc.

Cool, I'll look into it. Any decent reference guides for post WW2-Vietnam eras? How for the other services (Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines)?

Shelby Stanton wrote a series of books on the US uniforms of WWII, Korea and 'Nam. They are from Stackpole books. Excellent basic reference. Army only. You might try the Osprey series for a basic overview of the other services
