    Tell me about Knox Thirty

Jack, Wow. That looks a lot like the Knox "Cervo" I picked up in NYC. I sent it to Worth and Worth for a clean up and it looks fine now. Barry

    How to travel with hats

I have a rectangular leather suitcase. I believe it was designed for cowboy hats. It's pretty big and heavy and a bit of pain to lug around. A cardboard hat box will fit into it perfectly. Maybe one day I'll put some type of hat rest in it and line the whole thing with velvet. Barry

    Hat stores in Richmond, VA?

If you ever get down to Norfolk go check out that store. I went down there to pick up some felt stiffner. They sent me upstairs to talk to the boss. I asked if he still blocked and cleaned hats and then he took me on a tour of the facilities. I wasn't up there very long, but man, was it cool...

    Hat stores in Richmond, VA?

Drive further south to Norfolk. Go to Stark and Legum (open since 1924!). Bypass the Stacy Adams shoes and the "zoot suits." Ask if you can go upstairs to view the hatting equipment. ;)

    How to travel with hats

Matt, Can all of the lighter weight Optimo felt hats be rolled up for travel? I'm thinking about taking a brief trip to Chicago to visit some relatives and then the Optimo shop. I'd love to have a nice hat that I could roll up like that. Thanks, Barry

Stylemaster: Bluegrass Green (Anyone have one?)

Will do. I have the "Fed" but I feel the brim is just a little bit too big for me. I usually wear it to work when it's raining outside. It's basically my foul weather fedora. I wish I felt more comfortable wearing it everyday. [huh]

Stylemaster: Bluegrass Green (Anyone have one?)

Akubra will "custom make" Stylemasters in a couple of colors including Bluegrass Green, Navy Blue and another color, I forget which. Does anyone have the Bluegrass Green? If so, can you post a picture or two? I just ordered one in Acorn. I think this might be the hat for me given the crown...

Calling All Mods! Calling All Mods!

Jack, That would be great. A old friend of mine who I haven't contacted in probably 3 years or more goes by the name "Long Tall Simon" on the net. He's a pretty popular funk, soul, groove and 60's r&b digger and record seller. I knew him back in college. That guy is a master digger for...

Calling All Mods! Calling All Mods!

Let your heart dance.... Sadly, no Mod duds anymore. The one shirt I have left no longer fits. I guess I was more of a Ska nut anyway. And Northern Soul! I still love it. :offtopic: I get weird looks when I wear my "Keep the Faith" T-Shirt at the gym. Barry

    Allen Edmonds Shoes...

AE MacNeil in Merlot Antibes. Probably my favorites. Btw: My left shoe is a 9EEE, my right is a 9D. Will polish tomorrow :p. Barry

    The Tweed Suit

I purchased a tweed suit on E-bay. The seller claimed it was "vintage bespoke." I'm not too concerned with the date on this one. I just really liked it and it should fit perfectly with some minor hemming of the trousers. It should make for a nice fall and winter suit. Once it arrives I'll...

    Hacking Jackets

I have a three button Keepers Tweed jacket that I believe would be considered a hacking jacket. I love it! I bought mine at Brocklehursts. It looks like this but I'll get a personal photo up eventually.

Bespoke shoes: Edward Green Trunk Show

There's going to be an EG trunk shoe in my neighborhood in two months. I'll go check it out. Because of a fairly substantial shoe size difference which I have mentioned a few times here, I have a few choices: Orthopaedic Shoes Buy two pair Nordstroms (they'll split for a size and a half...

Hats for men <=> Shoes for women

For me, I guess it's a double whammy. I like shoes too. I just ordered some Bluchers and Chukka boots today. Barry

    You're gonna be upset but

Art, My midnight blue VS fedora is probably my favorite. I wore it to synagouge for the new year and I received several great compliments. I look foward to meeting you at the QM and I'm really excited to check out some of the new prototypes. Barry

How do you DATE a vintage suit 30s/40s/50s?

I took it in to the tailor and he thought the same. He's probably one of the best tailors in DC. He was wearing some great fairly high waisted trousers with side adjusters that he tailored (They start around $600). There was quite a bit of room to let out in the trousers but not much room to...

How do you DATE a vintage suit 30s/40s/50s?

curious about my suit I'm taking this in for alterations tomorrow. Thought I'd ask some questions about it beforehand. Maybe someone can help me get some additional information. I think I posted about this once before... On the label: "Botany 500 by Daroff" "TONES" "Tacoma, Wash" (Has...

    Boredom: A plague upon us

A former manager once said... I once had a manager who had more energy than anyone I've ever known. This guy kept moving and working and hustling he never seemed to stop until the end of the day. He worked long hours but never neglected his family. One night after work we were out smoking...

Why bore them to death with navy blue?

I posted a picture of my first vintage suit a while back. I'm still losing weight and with some minor alterations I hope to be able to wear this at the Saturday night QM event. It's actually a much darker blue - this photo does not capture the color accurately. Barry

Aero Bootlegger or Cropduster, what do you recommend ?

Consider the Cossack I have a Cossack. I really like it. I believe it's about 25 inches long. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=11040757&uid=142228 I do like the Cropduster quite a bit too. Here's a front shot and a shot of the collar. It's not quite...
