    Idea: Fedora Lounge Podcast

Now a 9 year jump! :p There's such a wealth of interesting information here that I'd be interested in listening to. Julian suggests a good candidate for content is Lizzie Maine. I'm sure there are others too. Lots of tech advancements since this thread started in 2005. Any interest in...

I've got a Stetson Chatham Royal Deluxe that I'm considering recreasing/rebashing. I've got a suitable steamer; do I need a block? I wouldn't mind starting with an open crown and going from there. I've just started looking at blocks, but any direction will be appreciated.

    Fedora Lounge Podcast

Has anyone here considered doing a hat podcast? There are podcasts for just about everything under the sun, and it occurs to me that I'd enjoy listening to hat makers and enthusiasts talk about a variety of hat-related subjects. I realize doing a podcast is no easy thing, but I wonder if it's...

    The Open Road Guild

I emailed Stetson USA regarding the future availability of the OR RD. Their response (on a Sunday!): Thank you for contacting Stetson! We have not been informed that our Open Road Royal Deluxe hat will discontinued from our main office, from our knowledge the hat will remain in production.

No doubt the character of a vintage is going to be a major part of the appeal, as well as the quality. I've yet to venture into vintage, yet I know that's what most folks here do. Maybe this is the hat that could be my first step into that realm.

Interesting... Why is the RD OR being discontinued? I guess technically one could re-bash a Stratoliner into a cattleman crease. At retail, I've found a new 6X OR for about $160. A new OR RD seems to be going for about $180-$200, but just this morning, now that you've said they are...

    The Open Road Guild

I'm considering a new Open Road. As to the RD, I've only seen it with the cattleman crease, but others may know differently.

Is there a link or post number(s) in this thread that discusses the advantages of the 6X felt vs. Royal Deluxe Open Road? I know the stiff vs. softer factors, which is likely what will determine my decision, but I'm wondering if anyone has a particularly compelling utilitarian reason for either...

If the hemp had vents, I’d likely have gone with that. Or if they made a palm with vents. But the Shantung OR looks and feels classic. It works.

I think “authentic x” means somewhere between 6-12x, which for Shantung may mean, oh who knows what. Either way, I really like it. It handles steam and while it takes awhile, subtle changes are possible. I don’t plan to beat this hat, but I won’t baby it either.

I love this hat the more I wear it. I have a number of straw, palm, and vented cotton type hats. This has fast become my favorite.

After a couple years of deliberation, I finally took the plunge on the Open Road 10X in toast. I sure am happy with it. I love the classic shape and cattlemen crown. As much as I love the various bashes of fedoras, I'm a cattlemen crease type of guy. The venting on the OR straw is great for...

*Posted over at the Open Road Guild too but figured here might also make sense. I'm pleased to report that I just received my Open Road 10X straw in toast. I love the classic OR shape and profile and have touched it with a bit of steam to even out to my liking. Question- are the internal...

I'm not sure if I should post this here but here goes. I'm pleased to report that I just received my Open Road 10X straw in toast. I love the classic OR shape and profile and have touched it with a bit of steam to even out to my liking. Question- are the internal sweats on the OR straw 10X...

As warmer weather approaches, I just bought the Henschel crushable Breezer with CoolMax sweatband. The brim materials are polyester, vs. the Henschel "Aussie" crushable which claims cotton. Both have the same material mesh for airflow. Question- considering that the polyester is mostly the...

    Crushable Straw Fedora

I have the Henschel crushable Breezer with CoolMax sweatband. The brim materials are polyester, vs. the "Aussie" which claims cotton. Both have the same material mesh for airflow. Both are rated as crushable. Question- considering that the polyester is mostly the brim, should there be much...

What's the difference between a "touring" and "vintage" Irish flat cap? Do touring caps have longer visors?

    Hanna Hats of Donegal Ltd

I have a handful of Jonathan Richard flat caps, and one Patchwork Hanna Hat. I prefer the Hanna because the visor is a bit longer. I'm looking to pick up Hanna Tweed in charcoal salt and pepper. I can't speak to whether or not they are worn in Ireland much these days, but in the cold weather...
