I've got a bit of a goof to undo.
I wanted to change my hatband on my Stetson Skyline, so I took the advice of the Boot Barn hat "specialist" who suggested I remove the original felt band and use hobby glue to affix the new band. After realizing the new band didn't look right, the specialist...
I've got a couple of Stetson Skylines- I love switching back and forth from black to Silver Belly depending on my mood. Both have tone on tone hat bands and I'd like to consider other options (not the kind you find at a Boot Barn or similar western supply store). I assume there are some artisans...
The chocolate was very rich, dark brown. Not terrible, but not to my liking. I prefer mink or oak in browns. So I returned it (it was way too big too, which is funny since I have two of the same size already). It may have been mismarked.
I just replied about the need for a brown before reading your post. It's so true- I love the black and Silver Belly but I think the brown will add a bit of utility for the reason you mentioned- I anticipate it won't show dirt like black/Silver Belly.
Question- I have separate brushes and...
Thanks Michael. I'd probably prefer Mink but the closest thing in the Skyline is the Chocolate. The Sahara is a little too "not quite" for me. I'm sure it's nice but just not my preference- yet! I'll probably have one soon enough! I don't have any retail shops to see the chocolate in person, so...
I've been enjoying and wearing the heck out of my Stetson Skyline Silver Belly and Black, as well as a really nice Atwood Hereford palm leaf (Atwood even added a custom sweat band for me- all for $60!).
Question- I now have an opportunity to buy a Stetson Chocolate for even less than I paid for...
I used the Bickmore today and went out in a light rain about 4 hours later. No change one way or the other, but that could be because the felt is good enough as is. I enjoyed brushing the hat down later anyway, like I was preparing a dog for a show.
I just called Stetson directly and they recommend Bickmore Gard More Stain and Water repellant (which I use for my western boots). Has anyone used this on felt? I guess if Stetson is recommending it, it can't be bad...

I see this is an old thread but I'm curious if any new developments have occurred. I've got two Stetson felt 6Xs and I'm wondering if I need to treat them with anything to handle the rain. For prolonged exposure I have rain covers.
We're getting a bit of rain right now, as opposed to the typical snow this time of year. Regardless, I do want to wear my Stetson 6Xs regardless of the weather. I don't plan on standing in the rain for hours, but how repellant are 6X beaver felt Stetsons? I've read a number of forum posts in the...
My guess is MHT will welcome you back, for a couple reasons. One, it's just good business for them to expand their market. Two, they seem like nice, reasonable folks who probably understand they've had quality control issues in the past and they may be eager to prove they've fixed the issues...
I bought the hat brush and sponges for my Silver Belly, and I need to go back to buy the black brush and sponges for the black beauty. I brushed the Silver Belly last night and couldn't believe how much dust came off! Do they treat hats with some powder before leaving the factory? Or do felt...
I received my Stetson Skyline in black today. I'd decided that my Skyline Silver Belly would suffice but after the black version climbed atop my head, I'm powerless to return it. They both fit perfectly and both look great. I already rationalized that daily temperature differentials and...
I'm now looking at the Atwood palm hats. Seems like a good option at a great cost. The lighter colored (whitish) palm still looks classy and from what I've read, are probably quite breathable during the hotter weather. I'm deciding between eyelets and perforations. I guess it all comes down to...
I checked out some of the MHT straw hats today in person. I was really taken back by the low quality fit and finish. The straw may as well be plastic- I don't know what kind of straw they use but they've been lacquered so heavily that they look like plastic toy hats.
I've been quite impressed...
