Any idea why they aren't wearing guns? Seems an obvious miss for the theme of the costumes, so I'm guessing there's a reason.
Sure there is... It's the same reason that Spielberg edited out the firearms and replaced them with walkie-talkies in "E.T". Hint: the reason has two letters...
("South Park" had a good response to Spielberg by producing an animated version of "Saving Private Ryan" in which the GI's came running off the landing craft carrying walkie-talkies instead of M1's.)

That thought flashed through my mind, but I dismissed it because who does a Western duel with two gunfighters facing off without guns; if you don't want to promote guns - just don't use the Western duel theme.

It's like doing Robin Hood without arrows or fishing without a hook; if you don't like those things, just don't do them, denuding them of the thing that is their essence is just odd.

Maybe you're right - I don't know, it just struck me as really odd.

It will probably strike others as odd, also, but Hollywood would not want to "trigger" someone and make them feel the need to run off to their "safe place".
Aside from the PC aspect (there, I said it), it's poorly done from a creative perspective. Sam's mustache-bit is the most humorous and creative aspect of the commercial, and instead of keeping that until the end, it's wasted about half way through. Beyond that point it's just dull.
