That's some very skilled anonymizing, Mr. Cohen.

Yeah, yeah, just scoff at me - a wise guy, huh? ;)

That's probably the most low-tech processing of images above scissors and scanner. I cut the sides in MS Imaging, which means you have to turn it in order to cut the left and upper sides, and then I drew rectangular spaces and hit "Delete". Finally, I replaced the Cantonese soup-kitchen posters with Italian newsstand signs so's to obscure my traces. OK, I made that last part up.

Is the very fast transition from down-tilted in the front to up-tilted farther back part of the desired style?

I'm not sure yet concerning the prospected new hat, but in this one, I actually do like the verve. I never thought about it as a "very fast transtition".

I note that the new Stetson is $59.
As long as you think they look similar, I'm sure
you'd be glad to accept twice that for the 30s Stetson, right?
Then you can buy one of the new ones and put the same
amount in your pocket! Let me know where to send the check. ;)

That's a darn nice bow and piece of felt on that 30s number.

Yes it is - very nice. The new one's brim is already too small, I'm afraid (1¬? inches).

But you know what - never mind feltfan's complicated offer. Send it to me, and I'll have a new one sent to you including a free feather!!:p

I just measured the straw hat:

hat size: 7 3/8 - 7 1/2
italian_straw_5.jpg

brim width: 2 1/8
hatband width: 1 7/8
crown height: 5 1/8 at the highest point

Also, I looked around on e-bay - I didn't find anything to my likes, but started some daily searches. (Non-e-bay vintage hats on the 'net didn't yield anything either.)

I have to do some measuring work with the hats I have, just to find a numerical expression of what I'm looking for, and then I'll check some online hat sellers. Some are more retentive than others concerning brim width figures and the like, but they might have more information when I ask by e-mail.
