I had to look up rutabagas and found they're turnips. I like those, including the slightly bitter flavor. (Why do I like bitter foods?) They're a good sub for potatoes (less starchy) but I'm sad that they cost so much more.

Well, the d@mn Vietnamese place was already closed when we got there, so we went to a Yemeni joint instead. I don't remember what the dish was called, but it was a giant bowl of hummus with spicy grilled chicken and vegetables on top of it and a never ending stack of pita bread to shovel it in with. It was delicious......it's too bad the halal restaurants don't serve cocktails, though.

Homemade pork banh mi sandwiches with spicy sambal mayo, pickled cucumbers & radishes, and a side of fries.

Sorry might be way off here but did you use the recipe from Ace Bakery?

The reason I ask is we make this regularly about once a month and your description sounded very much like their recipe. Apologies if I'm wrong but just sounded very similar.

The Ace Bakeries recipe BTW for anyone interested is absolutely delicious.

Very similar!

This was the recipe I used for the mayo & pickled veggies. The meat was ground pork, soy, ginger, garlic, fish sauce, cilantro, scallion, and lime juice mixed together and cooked in a tiny amount of toasted sesame oil. :)

Hi Babydoll, that sounds very good as well and very similar apart from using ground pork.

Can't go wrong with a banh mi, one of the tastiest sandwiches/filled rolls on the planet.

Do give the Ace Bakery recipe a go as it's seriously tasty, especially the pork if you marinate it overnight. I'm a chilli-fiend so I tend to add a splosh of sriracha or chilli oil to mine as well as the chilli mayo :)
