What's for Dinner?

Prelude to a heart attack (that's a cheese "skirt" BTW)...

Oh Lord have mercy that cheese "skirt" (I know what it is, but never knew it had a name) looks ridiculously good. I love "burnt" cheese like that from a flattop or under a broiler, etc. And, you are right, eating something like that is part of my retirement plan - either have more money saved up or less years of life to live as both accomplish the same thing: dying before you run out - in this case, the cheese skirt helps with the second variable.

Last night, in honor of Lily's last day of 1st grade, and my last day of work for 9 weeks, pizza (Canadian bacon, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, & olives) and a caesar salad.

Dessert when we got home, courtesy of the Filipino grandma of one of my students. She made us a plate of karioka (deep fried coconut rice balls, covered in a batter before frying and brown sugar glaze). Hubby wants to be adopted by her.

Tonight, grilled flank steak, buttered noodles, grilled zucchini, green salad.

If she'll make those incredible sounding karioka regularly, I'll sign up for adoption as well.

And I love that buttered noodles pop up regularly in your meals - it's one of my favorite comfort foods.

We attended a birthday party for one of Lily's school friends last week who is a cousin of my student (different school, same general neighborhood - about 2 miles apart). Grandma made the karioka for that party. That is how I got on her radar. She also made a batch for my school's staff end of year party. Chances are pretty good they can be had on demand. (They are a lovely family!)

Every now and again we enjoy a meat free meal. Tonight I'm cooking mushroom stroganof. A mix of onions, chillies, peppers, tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic and a sprinkle of paprika and cayern chilli powder. Served on a bed of wholegrain rice. it really does clear the sinuses.

I forget is Dos Equis a brand of milk or beer? :)

And there's "brisket" (which Baby Doll educate me to) showing up again.
I have yet to put it on cereal, but maybe...
Brisket is right there with filet mignon, well almost. Although it was good, the barbecue sausage was the best thing I was fortunate enough to eat. The brisket was good but nowhere as good as that which I recently had while in Fresno, California at a conference. It was magical.
:D
