I tried to get into Deadwood, but never did because of the same reason.
When I look back on shows produced 30yrs ago (many I'm buying on DVD now that they are available), I realize how well written they were.
Nowdays? It's more about shocking the audience, than writing a good story.
Tonight I'm watching Axemen.
Exactly the reason I bailed out of Deadwood. It was a steaming pile coronated as the highest form of art. It was shockingly nasty and dirty at every turn.
Axemen? Speaking of swearing and shocking.
I watch it for the swamp logger guy. He's hilarious.
