What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The Monuments Men... Interesting story, gorgeous production, excellent cast. But it was shockingly old-fashioned: it played exactly like an all-star WWII film from the sixties. This isn't the first time that Clooney as director has used old-school methods (e.g., Good Night and Good Luck in fifties-TV b/w, constructing The Ides of March like a paranoid political thriller of the seventies), but I found it strangely retro and clichéd. (E.g., the only members of the team who are killed are the two non-Americans!)

Still, definitely worth a look if you're interested in WWII.

Yeah, similar to my thoughts. I thought it doesn't actually work very well as an entire film. It starts off good and then sorta falls apart like a made for TV film...

I think this one was discussed upthread. Not a perfect movie, but not bad as long as you remember the story they tell is far from being historically accurate.

Great film! Haven't watched this one since my son was around 5 years old...and that is about 15 years ago! Where does the time go.

"The Wind That Shakes The Barley". Watched it a second time last evening. I'm a really big fan of the dialogue presented in this movie. It seems genuine and unrehearsed in my opinion.

Saw it when it came out / thought it was intelligent and one of those "kid" movies that also worked for adults / can't remember a thing about it but will now try to find it and watch it again.

It is really good, but I thought he was even better - or the overall movie was better - in "Million Dollar Baby." But together, what a pair of movies.

I love Clint Eastwood's movies, so I'm a bit partial. Though, most everyone I know who has seen "Gran Torino" have liked it.

"The Equalizer" - Solid film that takes the time to develop Washington's character. The groundwork is laid so well that the violence that follows... makes sense. It's also neat that he eschews the gratuitous use of firearms, preferring more personal and intimate ways of dispatching his adversaries. Good film that makes much more sense to me than the last couple of Bourne ficks.
