I saw it at the movies when I was a little boy. I liked it a lot back then. I'm not sure how I'd feel about it these days.

As a movie, I thought it misses overall, but is still very film noir and enjoyable for that and for Boggie and Bacall.

I concur, I think in the last 20 minutes the movie could have gotten better, the plot seemed much better. The killer falling out of the window was too convenient and IMHO the movie should have changed to him hunting down the murderer while avoiding the dogged investigator that is on his trail.
