Originally I was going to order the natural tan buffalo but now I'm leaning towards the cognac.

Oh cognac looks good now, but the natural in the long run... depends on the colors you're most drawn to I guess! Would be a tough one for me. I've been checking the 127915 every day or two lol... not sure on grey or natural. The wife wants a ton special j100 in heavy steer, and practical wise... a winter plainsman or some such thing. But this is so...

The 127915 is a pretty sweet jacket for sure! I was considering that one but I'm not a big fan of buttons on my leather jackets, which is what led me to the 12799. I'm definitely giving some thought to your point about the evolution potential of the natural leather vs the cognac.
This is one of those times I wish I could have one of each!

* The angle of the photo makes it look like the bottom does not line up correctly -- upon viewing the photo, I immediately inspected the jacket -- edges line up perfectly -- its something odd about the angle of the photo -- just goes to show that sometimes we are hyper-critical of jackets based on oddities that are more a function of the photo than the actual construction of the jacket.

Superfluous, it isn’t the angle of the photo that is making the bottom hem look crooked as the angle is literally straight on. I suspect that it’s your posture. I noticed the same thing in photos I took of myself. One shoulder is significantly lower as you can see in the photo, causing the bottom hem to look uneven. In my case I suspect it’s from carrying my bag on that shoulder all the time, so I’ve made a conscious effort to switch shoulders lately to try to alleviate the problem.

Early morning walk with the dog at 30 F. Time to pull out the beast! Aero B-3 redskin. This jacket does the job: only my hands were cold at the end of the walk.

We're both in Chicago. I think my standard of cold tolerance is much worse than yours!

Me too. The budget this year is shot, but a B-6 is definitely in my plan for next winter.

I recently sold my Aero B-6 to another Chicagoan. I enjoyed it while I had it! Definitely kept the warm in and the cold out.

Now I’ve got an Aero redskin D-1 on order via Thurston. I really like the richness of the color on the B-3.

It got so warm out that I was a bit overdressed for the conditions. Sounds like I won't have to worry about that for the next few days as it's supposed to be significantly colder.

Anything you didn't like about the B6 that you are hoping to correct with the D1?

Just an issue of sizing. Doesn’t fit me like it used to (thanks calories). I’ve already got a seal D-1 that I like the size and fit of. Just expanding that part of my closet.

Because of your jacket, I've been visiting and revisiting the Aero Sales page, hungering over that black HWM in size 36. BTW, the new cap outclasses the b-ball cap.

Wow, that Herc is nice! You can probably lose the lower straps though. They are really only meant to have the waist-level ones unless you live in Chicago.

The zipper broke first day wearing this. Took it to Johnson, they put in a brass YKK #10. They snipped off the lower straps, and gave me advice about filling in the open stitch holes, but said, "who is going to notice it". I like that down to earth approach.

Now i remember why I don't cross the bridge often. Took me 1-1/2 hours to get there, and over 2 hours to get back to the other side of the bay. Only 13 miles. When I got there the jacket wasn't done. I got a little pissy. They offered to bring it to my home in person. As promised the guy showed up at my door this afternoon with the jacket. They replaced the zipper, making to be sure that the new stitching aligned with the old stitch holes. Now that is good old fashioned quality service that is hard to find these days. Not the cheapest price, but the quality work, and customer service was well worth the money. Kudos to Johnson Leather!

I call it the Beast. Weighs about 10 Lb.
