Michael,

Nice jacket, hat and pants - goes well together. Nothing like shearling to ensure warmth and comfort on cold days though I would imagine you have to be very careful about getting a light colored jacket free from stains.

Thank you guys for the nice comments, i ended up returning the avirex because of a hole under a patch. I bought a Cooper instead.

As for my riding outfit, i came across some old motorcycle pics with guys dressed like this and wanted to try it out. I even got a pair WW1 cavalry breeches but it doesn't looks good on me at all.

Would love to know what style of head wear your hat is if that makes sense.....
The hat is a Stetson nutria quality service hat from the 1950s. It was a US National Park Service rangers hat. More commonly would be seen with a 4 dent peaked crown shape, but I like it open crown as then it has the dimensions and shape of a late 1800s Stetson cowboy hat. The band is an original park service band

You can see in this photo part of the initials USNPS pressed into the front leather and the sterling silver sequoia cones hardware.

Thanks Bob. It is a nice pairing I think. The pants are A-1's favorites at the moment, Korean War era US Army 18 oz wool serge pants. They rank pretty highly with me too. I'll find out about the stains issue, because I notice I somehow dragged a cuff across the top of a sugary and greasy dessert yesterday while I was wearing it. Ha ha. I guess I'll have to decide not to worry about it. It's a surprisingly, to me, light jacket and nice and warm. I'll still favor a coat for cold weather, but I think this one will be showing up on my bicycle trips this winter.

Thanks all,
Michael

Rain and chilly 40-50 degree temps today so I dug out my old Navy-issue deck jacket. These are 1990's vintage jackets (almost the same as the ubiquitous green A-2 deck jackets used from the 1960's thru the 1980's). These are labeled "Deck jacket, cold weather, flame resistant, Class 1" and were issued to ship's crew from the ship supply office. Often the ship's name or the specific division was stenciled on the reverse. Since this was my own personal jacket I added WWII-style U.S. NAVY lettering on the back. Mine has been worn on quite afew different ships in some pretty extreme weather.
It's a flame resistant Aramid fiber jacket with a warm wool-blend pile liner.

Here is a shot of me in the Thedi shawl collar jacket that Thurston Brothers sent for my fit jacket.

This is an XL in Thedi sizing and I am going to order mine in XXL. I know that this jacket looks like a perfect fit but it is not comfortable to move around in.
I'm glad that they sent me a shawl collar jacket to try on because I have always been curious about this style, yet never curious enough to order one. After trying this one on and looking in the mirror I have confirmed that this is not the style for me. I have seen many photos of people here looking great in shawl collars, from Thedi, Aero, Himel, and many others, but I don't think it works on me.

Thanks for the kind words Ton. Without a doubt this is a very, very nice jacket! The quality of construction and finish is close to perfect. As far as fit goes, I seem to look my best in jackets that are just a little to tight to be wearable...
