See, I need that downward swoop of the brim on my St. Regis! As Voodoo said, that Lord Kent is smokin'!

I like the modern strat too! Looks great on you.
Thanks Phil!

So the Lord Kent takes the tight front pinch because it has a thin brim binding. Actually, I don't even know if it's considered a true homburg - maybe more of a curl-brim fedora?

You can see how thin the binding is in the photo of the Lord Kent. Of course that means that the pinch is happening on the non-bound felt, which you can’t do on a full-bound homburg.

This Dobbs that I showed a few days ago would be an excellent candidate for the tight front pinch, but I love him too much as he is, so I've never done it.

So the Lord Kent takes the tight front pinch because it has a thin brim binding. Actually, I don't even know if it's considered a true homburg. I'm gonna call it a curl-brim fedora just to differentiate (there's probably an actual name for that kind of hat, I just don't know how to find it quickly).

But you can see how thin the binding is in the photo of the Lord Kent - I'd say it's about half as wide as a St. Regis, which of course means that the pinch is happening on the non-bound felt.

The best I can do with the front brim of my fully-bound homburgs is to bend them down in the front with steam. But most of them (including the Stetson and the Borsa) won't lock in that position, either - the brims always return to normal within a few hours.

Maybe the moral is a homburg is a homburg whereas a curl-brim fedora is a different animal? At least with that knowledge, if we want to achieve this look with other hats, then we know better what kind of hat to purchase?

The Dobbs that I showed a few days ago would be an excellent candidate for the tight front pinch, but I love him too much as he is, so I've never done it.

Well, it may not strictly qualify as a homburg, but it is a great looking hat. Great shape and even better colours.

I am wearing it in the house today....as it is a straw and it is winter out there. Here is a Knox straw...not sure if it is a true Milan but it is straw and not shantung. I replaced the pug with my own version....a silk tie deconstructed, pleated into a type of pug but with a 'keeper' at the ends as I don't like the tapered ends of a true pug. I have snapped the brim down all way round so to me it looks like a more classy version of the bucket hat. Spring will arrive eventually!

Leop. Nagy Hut Wien XV possibly later 1920s to mid 1930s. The felt has a very soft hand and purplish dark gray color which is special. The Sweatband is 2 1/2 inches in width. Nagy Hut is a famous hat store in Vienna which is still in business today. I think this Soft Felt was sourced but there is no company mark on the paper label. I found this Homburg back in 2011. It's been almost four years since I posted here.
