A wonderful Peschel, Steve. Aren't they all? Some great research on the original owner of the import company.
The liner remnants look like hat versions of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Thank goodness they're more decipherable.

Anton Peschel Neutitschein possibly mid 1920s. I received this hat from a FL member back in 2010. He had it restored by Optimo Chicago which I think did a good job but I wish he had kept the original Sweatband (see below). The original Band was missing and the original Liner was shredded (see below). The Black Velour is of really high quality.

Imported by the "The Star Clo. Co. Macon, GA". I found some info on "The Star Clo. Co. Macon, GA". The company was owned by David Wachtel Sr. who immigrated from Austria / Bohemia in 1867. (Federal Census records showed there was community of people that immigrated from Austria / Bohemia.) His son David Wachtel Jr. born in Macon 1895 was also involved in the business and took over sometime after his father's death in 1920s (not listed in 1930 census). I have no idea how long the business lasted after 1930.

Hard to date with the Nudelman Bros. vendor. They cover several decades. This was from 1939: The hat is interesting in this uniform example

Great looking hat. My knowledge of Stetsons is limited, but it has a Stratoliner vibe to it. Do you know the model?

Does the leather hat shrink? I would have thought over a few years the leather would from sweat and rain.

For a long time after I first got it, I avoided getting it wet. As I got into nicer hats, the ‘roo leather got relegated to my barbecue/yard work hat. It doesn’t get much love anymore but it has been surprising resilient. It’s been rained on two or three times with no significant shrinkage. It has, however retained the aromas of charcoal, smoke, pulled pork and spare ribs.

Thanks, Randall. It was a range made by Rehfus Hutfabrikanten. They stopped production about 1963. You can find out more about them in Steve's (meyserwegener) thread German Austrian Hutmachers.

That’s a seriously wonderful looking hat, Steve! I’d like to see an inside shot, if possible. Never heard of this brand.
