Dang slide rule soldiers. (Thanks)

My HS math teacher told me "Pi R squared."

I told him, "No, pie R round. Cornbread R square."

Appropriate analogy. It's an analogy, right?

Y'know, sometimes I wonder why I post.
Day 23 of 31 Hat Parade: Sunny morning in Oregon, unusual for Memorial Day, usually gray and rainy. Patty and I took a nature walk at the Talking Waters park in Albany. One of the finest weaves I have come across, Mike Miller turned this one into something special. Classified as a Semi-Colado (open weave on crown) Cuenca Straw in Grade 8. Grading of straws from Ecuador is varied, this one is just superb though. Tight weave on the brim and a unique pattern on the crown. Air conditioning...

i love it! I’ll arm wrestle you for it. (Not really. You’d win.) Great hat, though. It got my envy juices flowing.

View attachment 237093 View attachment 237094 I love a Cavanagh fedora that Anthony Amodeo sold in his memorable hat sell-off a couple of years ago. I wasn't able to acquire it because he had already sold it to @scottyrocks, from The Fedora Lounge, and have since bitterly regretted my tardiness.

I asked Scott directly if he would sell it to me, and he replied he wouldn't "even if hell freezes over", so I have tried to find the same Cavanagh ever since.

Today I wore my Knox Twenty for the first time, and just realized why I like it so much: both hats are nearly identical in color (although I can't get my camera to show it accurately) and proportions, and the felt seems to have the same texture, softness, and malleability. They even have the same bash! No wonder Anthony liked it!
The last pic is of Anthony's Cav.
and the rest are mine.
So, my search is over!
Oh! And I just added to pics of the paper tags under the sweatband. @scottyrocks, if you are there, are there any tags under yours?

One of the nicest Cavanaghs I have ever owned. Came to me with the original box as well. It was about a size too large for me though. I passed it on to Moon and I see he put a nice diamond crease in it! Beautiful hat. It had a doctors name on the sweat as I recall........ would have been nice to see it go to you Doc. Thanks for posting the picture.

I feel like Hermione whenever I do this (as Snape would say: "Tell me, are you incapable of restraining yourself, or do you take pride in being an insufferable know-it-all?";)).
I can only speak for myself.. but I appreciate your input. You and others have immense knowledge on the subject. Whereas I can just take a wild guess... or sometimes regurgitate a bit of what I’ve gleaned for you all. Any idea what time frame that tag represents?

This bring German week 4 to a close, but it isn't over yet. Still more Germans to come (it's like playing football against them; it's never over.;) That real football you guys.)
Rockel Exquisit (because it was cold enough to wear it)

Ouweee! Makes me imagine what might be if that white fuzzy coffin hat I have were blocked into shape... would need a heck of a lot of starch... and alas it doesn’t have quite that brim.. but what a great look.

Great job as usual, Terry. You made a tired hat look like new.

Thank you steur! This is one I believe I did year before last. When I sized it up the brim went from its original 2 5/8 to 2 1/2 inches wide. I didn't like that 2 1/2 brim width so I stripped it back down and used the sweat I first put in it and a 6 ply ribbon I had on it and put both on another hat and set this one aside for over a year. After taking another look at it I had other ideas and I'm wearing the Dobbs again.

Aghhh! One more reason to regret joining the Lounge so late in life. Oh, well. What are you gonna do.

Just wondering: Since I’m not versed in the subject of hat provenance this certainly qualifies as a wild guess: Could the top number on the right side of the tag refer to the date the hat was made? Could the 73146 indicate July 31, 1946? Is the hat that old?

Mid morning I went for a walk to cool down after a run. The impending rain has me wearing a coated warm weather hat. Perfect weather protection.

This vintage hat was sold by the People’s Clothing Store of Boone, Ia. “Styles of Tomorrow.”

Lunch on the deck wearing a stitched fedora. Wears very light on the head.

Post lunch walk-about in a Mallory Dallas. Thin-ribbon fedora out to visit the field of lupines.

Day 24 of 31 Hat Parade: Since it is Sunday in the 'Rona Times and no in house church services, I chose to feature what I would have worn. Casual suit, maybe even no tie, and this spiffy Barbariso Italian racing homburg! I love this "Rat Gondin" which is french for Nutria. Italian hatmakers used French for a period in describing their hat materials. Nutria is actually a prized fur for hat felt, used both in Europe and here in the States. I have styled this slim brimmed Homburg with a diamond crease, making it very casual for this type of hat. I have donned the term, "mullet-berg" for this one, business on the brim, party on the crown kind of thing. Archive photos, I have been out in the garden and look pretty scruffy for pictures... This is another hat that I might be open to part with, don't wear it enough. 7 1/4 (58cm) If you are in lust for this one, shoot me an offer!
