What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

For me, 2 5/8 and 2 3/4 for a brim width is where I want to be. The 2 1/2 inch brim width on this one just kills it for me, which is a shame because it's such a nice hat.

Here's another view of the hat from a different angle after I first finished it this past Summer. I still can't warm up to that brim width...

Here's my thin ribbon Bradford that I reworked for comparison. This one has a 2 3/4 brim that I like much better...

I like both hats but I agree that the larger brim works better/looks nicer on you. I have said it before and I''l say it again, hats more than any other item of clothing are dependent on exactly the right size/proportions on each particular person to work well. A brim and/or crown too high/low/wide/narrow and the look is thrown off, not enough for the non-hat person to notice but for those critical/aware (like most people here on the FL) will have a sense of something's amiss and will either sell it, trim it or just not wear it often - or at all. Just my 2 cents....

I have said it before and I''l say it again, hats more than any other item of clothing are dependent on exactly the right size/proportions on each particular person to work well. Totally agree, with one caveat: if one is going for something more unassuming, or more aggressive, or to make any particular statement then the aesthetics of balancing the best natural look can be broken.

Properly wintry sort of morning today. I gave this Borsalino velour a bit of a steam and brush out and I'm trying it out open crown.

Another trip to say goodbye to some special fish. I frequent a tropical fish store in Portland Or called The Wet Spot (I know...) that caters to high end specialty hobbyists. These Tanganyikan cichlids are too nice to sell to a PetSmart clientele. Wearing the trusty Knox-o-Liner Premier. I still need to fire up my new Jiffy Steamer to refine the brim curl on this one.

The suit is I think, an early '50s custom number that I'm pretty sure is handwoven Donegal. The sweater vest was made in Scotland. And the coat is an early '40s model. The hat being 1950s. Probably one of my favorite combos for cold weather.

A gout flare up after four years of being gout free was triggered by dropping a desk drawer on my big toe after a day of eating purine rich foods... so I’m finding other ways to enjoy being off my feet tonight.

Thanks sir. I have several different "like" Adams hats from different years and hues. This one is a 50's hat. Some day I need to get a family shot together. Below is a couple of pic from many years ago. Incomplete family pic ( a couple non-gilled hats also shown), but shows some of the variations. I have accumulated a couple more of the gilled hats and really need to make time to gather them in one place.

The poor pic (from early in my forum days)and poor quality does not show the felt hues. New pics are due.

Why am I not surprised you would have an impressive stack of vintage Adams like fedoras in similar, but varying hues?
The buckskin Adams is a real beauty. Hope to see the updated family portrait someday.
