For me, 2 5/8 and 2 3/4 for a brim width is where I want to be. The 2 1/2 inch brim width on this one just kills it for me, which is a shame because it's such a nice hat.
Here's another view of the hat from a different angle after I first finished it this past Summer. I still can't warm up to that brim width...
Here's my thin ribbon Bradford that I reworked for comparison. This one has a 2 3/4 brim that I like much better...
No, the 2 1/2 brim width on the Stetson just doesn't 'do it' for me.
I like both hats but I agree that the larger brim works better/looks nicer on you. I have said it before and I''l say it again, hats more than any other item of clothing are dependent on exactly the right size/proportions on each particular person to work well. A brim and/or crown too high/low/wide/narrow and the look is thrown off, not enough for the non-hat person to notice but for those critical/aware (like most people here on the FL) will have a sense of something's amiss and will either sell it, trim it or just not wear it often - or at all. Just my 2 cents....
