Got to love a day off! I went out to run a couple of errands this morning in a VS fedora that was inspired by the vintage 40's Stetson Stratoliners. The hats felt is a favorite hue of mine (dove (light cooler gray) beaver felt with matching ribbon treatment).

Back home finds me working the grill in a Gannon (silverbelly beaver felt with charcoal trimmings). Cheers (locally brewed sour beer).

Not quite finished with this one yet. I still have to clean up the ribbon before I actually sew it back on and I still need to do a little more tweaking on the crease. I'll have more later in the Conversion Corral when I'm completely finished with it. This is a faded CA Quality Melton that a fellow Lounger sent me. I took it apart and completely reworked it. The fur felt quality may not be up there but I like the way it came out anyway. It reminds of a hat that a blue collar working stiff may have worn back in the day. Nice and casual....

Although not intended to be a replica, I drew some inspiration for this hat from the fedora that Charlton Heston wore in the movie, "The Greatest Show On Earth". I liked the over all appearance of Heston's hat in this movie...some things I didn't like about it, so I put my touches on the Melton refurb

Wearing my new Stetson Flagship. Just picked my brother in law up at the airport, and I am on the way to leave six hats with Ignacio.
Fortunately, this Flagship just has a wrinkled ribbon. The size is fine.

Great color on a great hat! Have we seen that overcoat before? I love the color. It is hard to find a green 100% wool top coat these days unless you have it made.

Splinter my friend I really appreciate your vintage hats especially your pre-World War I collection; they are truly a hat historical education. I also totally dig your vintage clothing collection and your efforts to blend your hats with garments from the same period. I said all of that as a preface to my initial thoughts about your current post. That overcoat is fantastic! What a statement piece in its day and even now. Love it. Thanks for sharing.
