Wouldn't a hare/rabbit mix felt get wonky if it got wet?

Max you sometimes read a little too much into fur type/blends/mixes. First of all, Pilgrim brand hats are the name of the hat carried by Sears Dept. Stores back in the day. The same as J. C. Penney Marathon hats, these were contract (jobbers) hats. There is some information around the lounge that says Lee was the mfg. of many of the hats carried by Sears and Penneys.

Fur blends from the day were proprietary and the secrets of the blends were safely guarded. Hare/rabbit, hare, rabbit and beaver hats and the varying blends have been around for some time. There's information about that suggests wild hare, next to beaver is the best material for hat fur. See Akubra, though they now import rabbit fur for their hats. As far as the finish of the hat, regardless of the material used, would depend on the maker and the one finishing the surface of the hat. No well made hat is going to get "wonky" when wet, at least none of mine have. Fully soaked and crumpled in a corner to dry, yeah that'll make one wonky. If I remember correctly Lee was one to really push how effective their hats were at shedding water.

Wedged between an approaching cold front and the remnants of Hurricane Michael, the southern Appalachians are getting lots of rain today. The obvious choice for my limited time outside is my "Trekker" hat by Rick Walker of Phoenix Hats. Not a true fedora, but we designed it for this very kind of weather and it is performing beautifully!

Please pardon the scruffy beard; I am off from work for post-op recovery from a hip replacement, and have found it a real joy not to have to shave every day! Sadly, the beard is much more white now than it was when I shaved it off almost 30 years ago to enter the fire service, but that's a small price to pay to get to live a good life...

+ 1 Here in Europe and specifically in Italy, the mixture of the hair and wool for certain types of felts is one of the best kept secrets as well as dying

This hat was made in Monza a few years ago by S.C.M. Let's say thirty, maybe more

Marked "Superiore" like others in my collection, it has the following indications in the inside sweatband "Qualità superiore pesco" "Colore :Blu" On the sweatband "Lepre Garantita"

The felt is of a deep blue and the surface has a "peachy" touch

The dimensions are generous with the crown of medium height

Finished in an exemplary manner is a product of the high quality Monza hats

I like blue hats and this one has a very "special shade of blue
Let's say many thanks for the likes and appreciation on the "Charles Hatters" in Talpa lustee short hair finish

Thank you sir, I appreciate that! I am almost three weeks into recovery, and feel great; it is hard to be patient and not overdo, especially when I want to be outside. Modern medicine is certainly a blessing - my joint had gotten badly deteriorated and by two days post-op I already felt better than I did the day before the surgery.
