Hey all!
The Dobbs "Sunbrero" makes a rare appearance on a hot and muggy day on the NorCal coast.

Much too rare: i like it very much, John. Could almost be a straw homburg.

A homburg is a particular style constructed to present with the brim curled upwards, similar to but less defined than the d'orsay curl of the derby/bowler.

Most fedoras can be worn with the brim up all around or snapped down in the front. I am partial to wearing many hats with the brim up - others prefer a downward swoop.

A pencil rolled brim is something else - a tight roll of a raw brim edge, usually seen on a western hat.

Hope the pictures help!
Homburgs and pencil rolls explained in a nutshell. The illustrations are magnificent!

Good morning from Minnesota. A cool morning finds me out early on a hike with our dog and dog soiree. A silvermist Gannon Wanderer (inspired by the venerable Stetson model) was and still is my hat choice this morning. With the leaves turning colors, Swallows/Kestrals starting migration (bigger numbers in the fields and woods), and local birds feeding frenetically all point to Autumn. "The times are a changing."

Morning yard duty in a sloped cattleman (mini-gus). Morning yard duty is a cup of coffee with a little bit o Irish. Pup pup and I walk Gods little half acre seeing what critters may have dug up or tipped over, refill the bird baths and feeders for all the wildlife that visits during the evening. Check on the foliage and maybe pull a few weeds, then sit under the Palapa for a spell and enjoy the morning coolness.

My idea of a Sunday morning! You sport the western Gus crease naturally. Thanks for sharing your backyard. Enjoy your Sunday sir.

It has been pointed out to me that I don't seem to wear many thin-ribboned hats. Guilty as charged (don't know why)
, but I do have some.

That's no problem, thin ribbons are nice on more western style hats, however the hats you have are awesome with the larger ribbons and would look odd with thin ribbons. ;) IMHO
