One third of the way in on 30 Days to 30 Hats. With yesterday’s presentation of my shortest brim hat... today I figured it would move on to the largest brim hat in my collection. At 4 inches this is some brim and it goes well with its 5 1/2 crown.... though I still think a bit much on my size 7 head. I found this one in a thrift store for $4... so it had to come along.

By myself I’m doing fancy trim and eight foot doors in a gargantuan sized new house for a couple that will have one fine home when finished. I can tell ya, hanging 8” X 16’ crown 12’ high is not fun without someone holding the other end! But at least I have no workers who may end up giving me and possibly my parents Covid-19. Thanks for asking about the case, Rumad. A well crafted, but heavy way to faithfully protect an expensive friend.
It’s a Mark Leaf travel case. $500 when new, but the man who hand built these things has passed on and if you can find one they can get pricey. They’re not metal, but silver, or black painted fiberglass overlay on thick plywood. The outside is ugly, but the inside looks as well appointed as an upscale coffin.
It’s water tight and fends off heat from sun very well. Believe me. In one of my most forgetful and scary incidents, I accidentally left the guitar and case in the open bed of my pickup for about four hours on a blistering summer day in June. In any other case the acoustic guitar would have been turned into a nice pile of kindling, but when I grievously opened the hot case I was relieved to find that the guitar was merely a bit warm.
It’s a heavyweight, though. But for traveling around gig to gig you’ll not find a more protective case.
Now, for a more interesting and killer story I should tell how I came by this wonderful case and custom built, absolute cannon of a box, but it’s a long tale. I’ll spare us both.

well I’m glad I noticed it! It’s a very interesting looking piece, I thought it was a vintage item. So, it looks like a coffin, maybe that’s why I like it lol. Thanks for the explanation. Very cool looking. You gig? What kind of amplification do you use?

Anyway, pic one with the youngest, pic two had to go outside and spray the flowers again after it rained. It was super windy today, so I wore the most aerodynamic hat I have. The old Stetson bowler, refurbed by Mr Fawcett. Try and enjoy the weekend people!

Even a tweaker chick coming out of the beer isle dropper her cases and saluted me saying "good morning SIR!" Picked up her beer and went on her way. I chuckled. Shopping for the parents was easy, Patty's Easter Dinner list, not so much... 10 pound bone-in ham for two people!

True, the standard mic will limit high volume, but for now, it’s the only way to amplify acoustic instruments without causing false, synthetic sounds. Though, I will admit inboard mics have come a long way since their introduction. Acoustic Pickups are still a pita for purists.
Maybe one day soon the fidelity will be as good as the trusty standard, or condenser mic.
Though it was something I did for many years in regional bands I no longer play ahead of crowds.

sounds like fun. You’re a busy guy.
I don’t gig, no. Although I do have guitars. I restore vintage amps and build others from scratch. How I got into guitars and guitar amps is a weird story, because all of my young life I was actually a drummer. I was doing pretty well, playing lots of clubs and having too much fun. Then one day I realized I have to pay the rent and feed the kids. Dang it!

Nice hat and very cool lighter ! I love Ashtons, I have a VSG in my humidor for almost 10 years now that has terrific plume on it, but can't bring myself to smoke it. A friend at work who passed away gave it to me for the birth of his Son.
