Open Road

This is my new Open Road, a work in progress. It's a Stetson 3X Beaver Open Road, size 7, with a price tag of $15 (I paid $16.66 on eBay, so the price has gone up a bit since it sold new). It appears to have been grazed by a herd of moths, but none have eaten all the way through. Needs some cleaning to counter the effects of having been grabbed by the front of the crown. It had a loose diamond bash when I got it, and I've tried to redo that more evenly and symmetrically. It's going to make a fine everyday, knockaround hat.

I guess this qualifies for both the 3X Mess Hall and the Open Road Guild.

I'd say so. I need to get a pic of mine up. Nice hat. It may have some moth history, but nothing that can be seen from the naked eye anyway. Looks nice. You wear it well.

If the underside of the brim has no moth bites, you can send this to a hatter and they can turn the hat inside out and make it look new.

I wore my 3x Open Road today too. It was originally sold at my great-great grandpa's haberdashery back in the 1950s.

I was at Wal-Mart with this hat and an older gentleman approached me.

Him: Can I ask you a question?
Me: Sure.
Him: Where'd you get that hat? [huh]
Me: I bought it at an antique shop.
Him: Really? Well, would you want to sell it?
Me: No, sorry.
Him: Well, I shouldn't wonder why, you look good in it.
Me: Thank you.
Him: They don't make 'em like that anymore.
Me: No, they really don't.
