To celebrate my birthday, I'm wearing my present that arrived yesterday.

Knox Superfine from the 1940s.

The hat belonged to Brigadier General Jerome J. Waters, Jr. Waters served in World War I as a Captain in the 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Division. During that service, he was awarded three Silver Stars for "gallantry in action" on July 21, 1918 near Villemontoire, France.

In World War II, Waters commanded an artillery training center in China to train nationalist Chinese (known as the Y Force) for defense against the Japanese.

After the war, Brig. Gen. Waters was warden at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in the early 1950s. There, he instituted significant reforms and was also taken hostage at knife point by inmates on one occasion.

He died in 1972. I was born in 1972. I can't help but feel that this has worked out nicely.

I also attach a few items related to Brig. Gen. Waters. In the group photo, he is front left.

Happy Tuesday.

Thanks! It’s a great jacket I found last summer at an antique shop, but alas, parts of it seem to tear or crumble with even a gentle touch. Is that what they call dry rot?

Bummer. That sounds like what they call dry rot, though what actually causes it I don't know. I've mostly seen it as an issue with furs.

It is a great color. Nice Resistol.
Thanks Joao. I know that one is to your liking.

Very interesting hat, Michael. Any idea about its age?
It is a bit of an odd one. Quite a wide brim for an Alpine type. I don't think it is very old. It is a true packable type with a grosgrain sweatband.

Thanks,
Michael

Thanks for the "merry birthday" and "groovy hat" sentiments, folks.

Almost quitting time, so I'm gonna head out and have myself an Insistent Brim Curl or two (on Jim, of course).

IDK, Matt. Inconsistent Brim Curl sounds more like a medical condition... you'd better get that looked at, too!!

Regards to Willie, Greg! I hope you're wearing that lid, BECAUSE!!

Now I'm noticing the boots even more, you B#*%^*#d! Those are some sweet-lookers you have on today!! The all-black alligator belly beauties on the website you linked me to, at $7000, are my hands down favorites. I'd have to sell ALL my hats, (and probably loose my wife) though. We'll see...

Since you're a new guy, I'll share the secret. But don't tell anybody.

The secret is to Googoo search your topic, adding fedora lounge. In this case, "hat storage fedora lounge" turned up ALL THESE THREADS on the topic, sir. Now you've got some reading to do!!

Enjoy, and don't forget to show us what you end up with.

I liked my idea better.

Poor guy, nine posts in and we're giving him the once-over.

Hey, @Wyldkarma! Welcome to the Lounge.

Read over those storage threads and realize that an important consideration is, "Do I have a spouse? Where will she let me put them?" [emoji4]
