Then in the afternoon my mother fired her steam ironing and I was able to change my FEPSA hat brim. Now waaaay much better :D

A rather wonderful thrift store find yesterday afternoon changed my plans for my hat wardrobe today. I had some time to kill between my youngest daughter's elementary school graduation and the rest of the work day, so I decided to get the oil changed and visit some thrift shops while I waited for the work to be done.

This beauty called to me as I rounded the corner into the stall:

Flipping it over revealed this:

The chocolate brown felt is extremely dense and is wrapped with a 2 1/4" darker brown ribbon. It still has the price stickers under the sweat:

I'm not sure who John P. Avery is, but his name is stamped in gold script on the sweat. I just know that he took VERY good care of his hat.

The 5 1/2" crown preferred to stay a center dent, but a little steam encouraged a more flattering crease for me. Tall crowns just don't look right on me.

I found a couple of other nice ones as well, but I now need to decide which ones in my collection will need to move on in order to make room for them. I hate to say it, but I might just have to many hats right now, and I can't afford a bigger house to store them.

Great find, Strapped. Those Cavanaghs have such great felts. And you don't need to buy a new house, just put on an extension:)

We have a summer reading campaign going on at our school. I was chosen to advertise for it. Here are a few of the pics with my 40's Marathon. Notice they kept my face out of it. Good strategy. Stuff like this is why I don't ever have enough time in the day to keep up with all the incredible hats you guys have.

Working-man get-up. Denim work cap by Keith. It's a repeat from a few weeks ago, but I'm really liking it!
