new arrival, and currently being worn. Taking it up to Virginia City, so I may have to take more photos of it in use. If you haven't heard of Virginia City, I recommend a quick Google search!

I think Virginia and Carson City were mentioned often in "Bonanza", Justin. Before you were born. One of the first T.V. shows filmed in color.
Did you know color T.V. was invented by a Mexican?
Guillermo González Camarena.
I think it might be Mexico's only technologic invention, so I know it well. Chocolate and Tequila aren't technologic, so they don't count. :)

The derby looks great Jeff. You've got the correct stature for it & for a bit more Western Derby like this too:

I’ve always liked them, especially with western style pencil rolls. Maybe it was a stature thing after all. Overly round face and all. Also, maybe I should not have cut my hair!

Tobey Maguire is not a very big guy when you see him in person. It was really hot & humid that summer during filming & he had trouble with heatstroke. He was young & had not hit the bigtime with "Spider-Man" yet. He was relatively unknown.

Wow, great additions to this thread. Cheers to the contributors.

I wore a vtg. early 50's Stetson Stratoliner to complete today's errands on my "list." Love the look of this hat - it thoroughly spans a downtown and country look for a Saturday morning efforts. Went to the local car wash and snapped a selfie during the efforts.

This afternoon I enjoyed started a fire. As a former Boy Scout of America (Eagle Scout) of my generation, I enjoy making small wood out of big wood. A vtg. Stetson Open Road in tan was my hat of choice.

My hat wearing experience has been of folks doubting my vintage hats are up to a spot of sweatt and effort. This Canadian originating Stetson Open Road handled the efforts without any effects. It did need a leather sweat wipe, liner wipe and sitting on a wooden block while it soaks up some leather conditioner. Hat put on it's "big boy pants" and worked with me for the efforts. Doubters, check out the sweat marks in the pics and know the hat will be good to go in the morning. My arms/back muscles will be stiff and soar a lot longer than the hat will need to sit on the block and soak up some leather conditioner. Thank goodness for gas powered chainsaws vs. the bow saws or cross cut saws of the past. Cheers to wearing a hat folks!

In a bit I will go and enjoy some beer from a new growler of beer (local brewery) watching the fire slowly die down with the lake in the foreground. Ahh, early Fall rocks!

Best to all this Saturday evening. Eric -

Nice hats as always Eric but that 69Z RS steals the show. My first car was a 69Z, Maroon with white stripes. What a car!!

Man that is awesome. The boss of the plains style like that has always been a back of the mind holy grail hat for me. Looks great!

Thanks Jeff. It's a style I really like too. Great looking bowler on your head today.

I kind of like this one with an open crown, it really highlights the quality of the felt. Any plans to return it to Campaign status?
i have my doubts that it will go back to campaign style. I do need to work some more on a few residual bumps in the roof.

Michael that is one fine Ranger hat!!
The USNPS band is hard to come by on it’s own and with a Nutria!! and pristine! That’s one fine time capsule hat!!
Love it!
B
Thanks Bowen. I got a real deal on this one. I really like the low, flat crown look. And the band was just gravy.

Thanks all,
Michael

..... Second question, following my covet of Red's straw, the one with the blue hat ribbon, I found this site. They have straws ranging from fifty pounds to about four hundred. They also have some very expensive ones. The link will take you to one that costs £1660. What justifies that kind of price? If you visit the site just click on "Mens" to see the collection including many affordable offerings.

I don't think I can answer your question any better than Brent Black. But basically, it comes down to the time and talent spent to make a hat in 3 days versus 3 months, or more. Imagine how much it would cost to pay someone, even at our minimum wage of ~ $10 an hour, 4 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, for 3 months. At 12 weeks, the bill is already up to $2400.

Now, I wouldn't pay an amount that high without seeing the hat in person to make sure the weave was even and consistent, or without viewing a lot of high quality pictures.
