Already did. I copied Anthony's. I have been brushing, cleaning, and steaming hats and saddle-soaping leather sweats for three hours, and have only finished three hats.
I bought this to condition the sweats. Think it will work?

I haven't tried this Honey. I use a Pecard's preparation. For dirty old sweats I have been using the same conditioner that I use on the Mercedes, Girots 3 in 1. Cleans and conditions, nice product. I think there is a dedicated thread (go figure...) for this kind of stuff. I know some folks have had issues with any kind of conditioner on some sweats. Not my experience.

Supposed to get very windy today. Will have to go with a tight fitting cap for my bike ride.

Have a great Friday,

Rocking the black and red look Michael. The old Gordon is one of my favorites.

Thanks Bowen. I had an alternate jacket lined up in case the rain picked up.

A friend of mine called me "Paron" that means "Land lord" and we smiled ten minutes. There are many meanings of this venetian word :)

Such a beautiful straw Daniele. Love that pug color.

Now that's how you spend a summer afternoon. Under an Esther Weis Milan.

Inky Steve. Here's a weird question...how do you rate the German makers in a heirarchy? Wegener in the middle, towards the top of a quality scale? How does Hückel rate? Maybe stick with 1950s offerings... Inquiring pea brains want to know.
Mike, Thanks! I am not sure how to rate them because workmanship could be equal but not the components (felt, sweatband, ribbon, liner). Mayser Ulm was the major German brand so they used more expensive components at their highest qualities because customers were willing to pay extra. I would say Mayser Ulm, R. & M. Wegener, Hückel Weilheim, and A. Peschel had the finest quality workmanship. To be fair most German Hat Companies had high quality workmanship. You also had companies like Rockel & Co. that made great Felts but used lower price sweatbands, liners, bands to keep the price down. They were very successful with this approach.

Thanks for this Steve. Now I have to line up my European felts in a row and test this theory. I have a selection of 1950s and 1960s editions of these I still need a Peschel to round out my Continent collection. You are the Oracle.

No, none of those are.
But I bought some Meguiar G10916. Do you know it?

Sorry, Max, I’ve never heard of it. I will say that with conditioners a little is better than a lot. If the leather gets saturated it can become weak and allow the thread to pull through and ruin the sweatband.

Somewhere here there is a thread(s) on sweatband care if you are interested.

How do you like this one? I brushed it, vacuumed it, air-blasted it with my office's oil-free compressed air, and steamed it. The felt looks brand new.

I still have to learn how to do a decent crease, though.

We expect a full parade of hats, Max. Just keep mucking about with them and see what works for you. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Needless to say that is a great hat.
