Dang, Matt!! Where do you find your vitafelt homburgs?? The rust ribbon on this one looks absolutely stellar against that felt.
Thanks, Blue.

Like most of the best things in my life, I just kind of stumbled upon this one. I found it on eBay a few years back (just as my hat problem was really starting to pick up a good head of steam). Same with the other.

Be well and have fun. [emoji3]

Attempting to date old Resistols is quite challenging, but based on this ad from 1949, Resistol referred to its thin ribbon hat models as "San Antonio" at least as far back as 1949. I think it is safe to refer to this hat as a "San Antonio".

Thanks! I want to get a kettle curl shackle and try my hand at converting some of my fedoras to homburgs. The shackles are pricey... but it would be totally worth it if I got good at it!
That would be one of the coolest things ever. I've got a couple fedoras that I have HOMBURGAFANTASIZED about. If you do that, please keep me posted.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT IDEA!

An artist friend who was from Belgium once went with me and pointed out that the light out there in the winter had a purplish tinge to it. I'd never really thought about it, but I realized he was right. This was right before we almost got busted in the Magic Forest.
Wasn't the Magic Forest in H.R. Pufnstuf? I think I nearly got busted there, too...

Great info.

The liner and sweat are pretty much identical to the Beaver Twenty homburg that you graced me with. Thanks for the help homing in on vintage.

I am not well schooled on Byer-Rolnick products, but I would guess this hat to be a decade later. Is there a ® symbol on the sweatband? Resistol received the registration of the self-conforming trademark in 1958, which would have been the time that the ® symbol would have been used. The logotype for Renberg's in advertising might help identify the period too.

That's a beautiful hat, Rick! I may be wrong, but I think that Resistol logo is mid to late 1950's.
Robert, you very well may be correct. I am always looking for info on dating Resistols. There seems to be less information on these than most other major manufactures.

What throws me off is the font on the front of the sweatband and the oil skin liner tip. It is dissimilar to other Resistols I have come across except for the homburg I sent to Matt and another wide ribbon I sold on eBay. The others I own with similar liners do not have the oil skin liner tip and have vastly different font on the front of the sweat. IDK. Its puzzling.

Alan, the trademark no. is 526196, which was filed in 1947 and registered in 1950. So that nails down the earliest date. When I first acquired the hat, I googled the store where the hat was purchased, Renberg's of Tulsa. Their logo appeared to remain the same throughout their existence, so no help there. It is fun researching this stuff!
