Don't knock 'em!

Today, having possibly taken my daughter's injunction to "wear something purple for my friend's party" a little too far:

003-5.jpg

Cheapest of the cheap linen/cotton suit from Primark
Tyrwhitt shirt
eBay tie
Tie rack pocket handkerchief
(Thurston boxcloth braces)
(Tricker's Acorn brogues)

I wanted something smart enough to go to church in but not too formal in view of the birthday party afterwards, and also something that I would be too upset if it was rained on or had jelly spilt down it...

Dear Anthony,
Don't knock a linen suit from Primark! I've got four that are practical and, I agree with you, one won't shed a tear if offpsring decide to decorate them with chocolate or sticky foodstuffs: and can ba laundered / pressed at home without incurring even greater dry-cleaning bills. As a knockabout suit for the summer and weekends, I think they're great. And they can be dressed up or down depending on need as well.

The purple shirt is terrific: your daughter sounds like mine, one with a perceptive eye for colour!

Oh gosh Fleur! You look incredible in every shot but my mouth especially gaped at this one! Did you make this? I love the red and white ensemble as well. :)

I didn't, but if you saw my Flickr page, as I think you did, you'll have seen it;s from Revamp Vintage. I love it, and always get so many compliments - no one else does such wonderfully wide trousers!

What a GREAT idea Panache!! "mocking up" a vintage style camera with tripod would be great for this and at other Edwardian events. At the Art Deco Ball, the 'official' press photographer had a vintage Grafix camera body, that he put a digital camera inside, and he used a real vintage working flash with it to use as the flash. It looked really cool looks-wise, but got the job done in a digital way. My husband loves to do photography, so this could be right up his alley. I'll tell him about it.

Thank you for the compliments here. We already had these V-I clothes and hats, so we actually didn't have to buy a thing for this -amazingly. Maybe I've just been prepping unknowingly for vintage and vintage style events such as this all these years...

Eventually I'll want something else for pants and socks for our son (I do sew, so that really helps) and perhaps someday a vintage boater for my husband. I already found a vintage Edwardian white lace and lawn tea gown for our daughter- found at the Alameda Flea Market on the 5th. I've stockpiled vintage and new laces and batiste, etc. to make myself a white tea gown dress for many years- its time to dig this all out and do it at last!

I'll probably end up buying an 8x10 print of this picture and also the same of the picture of our son taken on Memorial Day from the SF Chronicle as keepsakes to put up framed in the house.

cC,
Marvelous outfit and fantastic family photo! However I think that your husband needs a camera that is a little more flash powder and a little less digital to be perfect! :)

worn at ASDC lecture this evening

Before the lecture I had a bit of time to hear pianist friend Frederick Hodges play at Pier 23. The lecture for the members of my local Art Deco Society was titled "the Devil wears DADA", about the Dada aesthetic and then Surrealism movement especially pertaining to fashion.

All vintage 40s from head to toe except for the skirt which is vintage inspired RL and the pearl necklace (an anniversary gift). I got the stone marten stole at the Alameda flea market, I refer to them as my (four) furry little friends...Our daughter says I should name each of them:rolleyes: The feathers and stems on the topper hat are made to resemble butterflies. The jacket with Trapunto stitching would have looked better buttoned completely, but wanted to show more of the coral rayon blouse. It has multicolored floral hand embroidery around each buttonhole.

It was nice to hear from many of the deco ladies that they thought I and my outfit looked great, as these people are serious players about vintage clothing.

It was supposed to be cooler today, but ended up being warm. Oh well.

'34 tweed trousers
Brown Clarks brogues
Vintage 5-pocket tweed waistcoat
Modern jacket
Lee fedora
Vintage Rocolla collar
Silk bow

I posted more or less this same outfit in the 'Chavalier helps your outfits' thread, except with black shoes and a white pocket square. At Marc's recommendation I got a red silk pocket square to coordinate with the red pattern in the bowtie.

My outfit from the other day.

Beautifully themed and executed, as always!

May I ask a couple of questions? Where do you recommend buying kilts — specialist makers in Scotland or elsewhere? What do I need to ask for in the way of fit, etc.? Is it just a matter of giving waist (navel), hip and waist-to-knee measurements?

All the best,

CP
