Southwick for Nordstrom 3/2 roll notch lapel, lambs-wool sport coat in windowpane plaid of ecru/sand, cadet blue, dark brown, black, and bright blood red (over all effect is of a warm gray with medium blue with flecks of red (they're actually windowpanes), center vented and flapped hip pockets, palest blue Wrangler slim cuts, raspberry colored canvas belt with silver roller buckle, hot pink cotton lisle socks, very old J. Crew sand colored chukka boots with leather heels and soles, avocado green pique polo shirt (trim fit) JCP house brand, ivory colored twill silk pocket square with blue gray, dark blue, and red micro-paisleys, and my trusty old wind-up Elgin dress wrist-watch in rhodium plate with hexagonal face, and deep russet colored lizard skin band, and my rhodium plated silver art deco pinkie ring with a cognac colored citrine, and my wedding band, and silver art deco ring finger ring from my Grandfather that I always wear unless I'm wearing gold. Oh, and as per usual; my Dobbs Jet, 707 in cornhill. Alas, no neck tie, my office is a bit on the casual side..... :/ so I have to walk the line, and limit my tie wearing to at maximum; 3 days out of the week.

On another note: I'm expecting a new pair of rust colored HBT RL Colonials in inter-season wool in the mail any day now from The Bay! Maybe with a checked sport coat and dark blue polo or maybe a salmon colored polo?! It's hot as hell here! (outside of the office)

Today....Charcoal-ey darkest olive green (looks like gray at a distance until the light hits it) plain weave with over-plaid (windowpanes) of muted red verticals and tealish-blue horizontals; vintage Norman Hilton super-high-rise double pleated, cuffed trousers (they belong to a suit for which I am still awaiting the completion of the alterations for the jacket; 2 button SB, flapped pockets), Oxford blue lisle socks, Brothers Brooks BDC shirt with alternating blue and white micro-stripes (Extra-Slim cut), vintage Ray Hammond 2" wide, 52" long hand blocked English Ancient Madder necktie in black with red, orange, rust, and green micro paisleys (tied in a miniscule four in hand knot and super short length!), silver 1 1/3" tie clip, antique platinum dog-bone pocket watch chain, Model 1894 Waltham rhodium plated wind-up pocket watch, discrete russet colored pebble grain dress belt of Italian leather with simple silver buckle, and vintage russet finished cap toed and brogued bluchers with a walking toe (Country last), and my mustard yellow pocket cardigan and my usual Dobbs Jet 707 in cornhill. LOVE this HAT!

Today; golden brown wide herringbone cashmere/wool RL high rise cuffed trousers (I think they're the colonial model, but not sure), white Lauren, Ralph Lauren twill dress shirt in slim fit, tan leather with silvery-brass buckle American Living dress belt, tan leather cap toed oxfords with brogued edging, bottle green lisle socks, mid to late 50s vintage Kelly green E. J. Hickey Co. necktie with baby blue, mustard yellow, and white stripes, platinum dog-bone watch chain. 1898 rhodium plated wind up Walthum pocket watch, usual finger adornments, silver tie clip, and my trusty Dobbs 707 Jet in cornhill. I wear this hat almost exclusively, because I just can't get over it, plus, it was my father's, and my grandfather's favorite hat. I also like the cornhill color BEST. Now, if I had other hats in that color......that'd be a whole different situation! Hahahaa! Oh, and my barleycorn 2 button sack cut sport-coat in tan, with a green polka-dot silk scarf in the pocket. Not wearing it; it's too danged hot here in Burbank.

Sheerest royal oxford ultra high-rise double pleated non-cuffed khaki cotton trousers with a taper towards the hem (these rise an inch and a quarter over my navel!), that I picked up in SB, many, Maaaaaaaany years ago. I don't remember the maker, but it was a house make for some local shop. They are the Most comfortable kick around khakis that I own, and pigment/piece dyed. D&G spear-point collar Oxford blue cotton dress shirt, raspberry colored cotton military style web belt with silver roller buckle, oxford blue socks, sand colored chukkas with leather soles, favorite hexagonal faced rhodium plated Elgin with lizard band, Alexandrite and white gold Art Deco pinkie ring, panama hat nearly identical in all regards to my Dobbs Jet 707 with regards to dimensions and shape, and a navy blue Harrington Jacket/windbreaker. I should have sported my RL zebra print silk necktie (it's in the same weave as my trousers, but silk, with a raw/matte finish and hand). I would drool over that tie, if I wasn't so paranoid about anything ever happening to it.....I think I'll throw it on when I get home, and go and out have a steak. I need one after today.

I REALLY LOVE your Shirt! It looks like your party had a great evening! What more could you ask for! Also, the color of that suit is out-standing! Nice heft on it too! Exceptional!

Oh Thanks! Its a HEAVY-ass wool suit, real thick canvassing under the lapels. Even on a cold, damp, foggy, rather Dashiel Hammet SF evening, I was more than toasty in there. Not vintage (I don't think), but is actually bespoke and never worn. Found it while thrifting, the pants weren't even hemmed. The shirt is a J Press french cuff, white contrast collar with light-blue stripes on the body. Wish I had more opportunities to get dressed up like this!

Hi Don! You know, you don't really need special occasions to get at least a bit dressed up, just slowly work it more and more into your daily wardrobe, and before you know it, you'll find that there's always a way to appropriately feel well dressed. Sometimes just for kicking around in, you can sport a nice button down collar shirt with a neck-tie and a sweater, or no necktie, and a point collar, but pull the point collar over the sweater's neck opening, or spruce up your work shirt and jeans with a casual sport coat and brown bluchers or cowboy boots with a (NOT square toe! Hahaaa!), I don't know. Just ideas. Find pieces that speak to you, shirts, simple ties, a sport coat, a nice sweater that you enjoy, build your wardrobe sir! Make the opportunities, and enjoy knowing that you're at least one of the better dressed people in the room, if not necessarily always the best (hey, you might run into a fellow lounger right? Then we'd have to flip a coin, or something), just enjoy it! Thrifting, yeah; it's a Great way to build up a decent wardrobe on a budget! I used to do a lot it, and still, occasionally, do, also Ebay. The J. Press stuff is Always so Nice! Good Hunting and wearing Sir! Have a Blessed day! P.S. Love the Hammet reference.

Vintage open/basket-weave linen wool sport coat (looks vaguely like a piece of fine gauge hemp rope was turned into fabric and made up into a patched and flapped pocketed single vented 3/2 jacket.....Haha. Cotton poplin super high rise khaki trousers with turn ups rolled in, hot pink (orchid) lisle cotton socks, grayish Oxford Blue linen shirt with pleated military style patch pockets, English Tan leather cap toed Oxford shoes, a RL American Living belt with faded brassy-silver buckle in matching calf, platinum dog-bone chain and rhodium plated pocket watch (the usual one), deep navy blue shantung silk pocket scarf in a puff and single point, and a new Panama that I still need to get yellowed up. Oh, and citrine and rhodium plated silver Art Deco pinkie ring, aside from Grandpa's Art Deco pinkie ring finger ring on my right hand, and not able to wear my wedding band today (but it IS in my pocket) due to the rheumatoid....It's getting my left hand AND left toes. Awful....Hot as heck here in So-Call/Burbank today.

I wish this is what I was wearing today! Still, I thought a lot of you would get a kick out of this vintage photo, since it ties into several of the threads here.

Everything in that picture is cooler and better looking than anything in my life. I assume he's on his way to pick up 1960's vintage Julie Christie for a date.
