Ok-- haven't posted in ages, but here is what I put together for the Friday dance at the Atlanta Varsity Showdown. Ended up sans jacket because of the temperature.

Dobbs hat

Burberry's dress shirt given to me by my step-father

Vintage Brooks Bros. vest

Vintage National Tailoring Co. belt back jacket

Haband tie

1950's trousers

Trying to mix some patterns. Stripes on tie, vest and shirt, subtle plaid on jacket and pants. I think it worked out alright. What do you guys think? Is it too much?

Would that be the "have your money in your hand and your order on your mind" Varsity?
Both looks are sharp. Very nice Hercules jacket.

edit - and I'm totally impressed you made those jeans. Awesome!

Griemersma, nice outfits, and you wear those hats particularly well.
HamilcarBarca3, I bet you were envisioning that outfit the second you got that jacket. :D

My offering for today:

Thanks guys!

dh: You're actually not too far off-- AVS is a swing dance conference, but that first dance was held at Georgia Tech, so really just a few blocks away from the Varsity restaurant.

Lovely jacket. Nice outfit, but i wouldn't have gone for the brown in the tie. I think that makes it too much brown. A deep red would have been my choice. With all the stripes i might have gone for a solid red tie. (but i'm a bit conservative when it comes to ties so maybe you shouldn't listen to me).

Thank you for the feedback. I think the lighting isn't helping here. Not sure if it makes it any better, but the vest is actually navy, and there are both navy and red stripes in the shirt. Yeah, I usually don't do black and brown either. Come to think of it, I hardly ever wear any black at all. I wasn't sure about the tie, myself. If I were wearing the pants that go with the suit I wouldn't have picked it.

Here's a recent photo of FL member (& Savile Row coatmaker) 'Barmey'. It was taken at a talk I gave on the fashions worn by British 'wide boys' of the 1930s/1940s:
