I agree. I love the outfit, and think she looks very elegantly sharp. I love when people aren't afraid of mixing colors, patterns, and textures.

To be honest I was quite surprised to see a reply like Shoomans- such criticism isn’t something I have come across on this thread before- especially on a post that was put up a few months ago!
I’m a great fan of RodeoRose’s dress sense, and I greatly admire the way she/you can mix styles, prints and whatnots, to create something totally unique, and in my opinion, pleasing to the eye!
I always think it’s a shame you don’t post more often- you are a marvel girl!

I wish these trousers were 2" deeper in the waist. Great pegs otherwise, but shallower in the rise than is wholly comfortable. Shame, as they're a fair bit cheaper than HeyDays. Oh well!

Same jacket both days - it's a Merc branded jacket identical to their Harrington style jackets save that it has a pointed shirt-style collar rather than the square ended, button-able collar. Bought this new on eBay a couple of years ago for well under twenty quid - obviously nobody else wanted it! Close up detail:

I've been working with clothes a lot today, but what I'm wearing right now is my Johnstown Traction Company repro uniform. Pennsylvania transit in the '50s and '60s!

This clay badge became the first of many I've made.

It's only a difference if someone asks for advice ("does this tie look good with my shirt?") or if they don't. Constructive criticism is not a bad thing. There is also a gender specific set of style rules. People on bespoke fora are crazy about rules and I kinda guess shooman comes from this ilk. They are quite knowledgable too but seldom on vintage.

RodeoRose has nothing to hide and I wish she would post more often. I quite frankly like her second outfit but in the first she looks like a princess. A better version of snow white maybe.

Thank you all for the sweet words!!! Your kindness definitely erased any insecurities Shooman's well-intentioned post dredged up. I'm sure his criticisms would be very helpful if I was a serious sartorialist, but alas, I dress the way I do for pure fun, and a passion for early to mid 20th century garments. Looking "perfect" has never been my own personal aim, though I very much appreciate those who do strive for it.

I'm also very sorry to have caused such a disruption here! So back to scheduled programming ...

That seems to be common on pretty much all non-vintage style forums I've seen. I know we can be the same here at times, but with vintage I perceive a bit more of an "of it works..." "rules as guidelines" type culture outside of specific instances like black tie or white tie where there really is a set of rules. Weirdly enough, the more obsessed they are with uniform rules and minutiae, the quicker they seem to be to pour scorn for, in their perception, doing just that. lol

I agree, there is a difference between offering constructive criticism to someone IF they asked for advice. There are quite a few outfits I see every day that don't appeal to me personally, or which I think could be improved, but it would never occur to me (and most people it seems) to offer that advice to the people concerned. It does nothing but make them feel insecure or bad about themselves, and in a world where we all get judged constantly about our appearance, especially women, why would one need to add to that? Besides, I wish I had looked as stylish as Rodeo Rose at her age!

On the forums where l frequent it is an everyday occurence where people comment on other people's clothing choices, and people usually take the constructive criticism very well. l never usually post in this section so l was not aware that folks would take my constructive criticism so badly...l am really surprised at the negative responses because my heart was in the right place. But witnessing the sensitivity to my comments, l will not be posting any comments in this thread again unless they are 100% positive.

lf l was posting my own pictures, l would want suggestions as to how l could improve my outfit, l always thought that was the purpose of posting pictures, but obviously the culture is different at Fedora Lounge. Sorry to spoil the fun, that was not my intention at all./

Late edit: at one time l was doing some study to become a fashion consultant, so naturally l have developed a critical eye for colour selection. l never meant to ruffle feathers. l am sorry if l hurt RodeoRose's feelings.

Oh, do come back! You know I love your outfits. I really enjoy seeing how you put things together, as I do all the ladies in the lounge. I wish more women posted in this thread. I already commented on your dress from Land-O-Lakes-Gal, but I will again..it's FABULOUS!
