Not the most exciting outfit, but it was an excuse to show off my new painted green suede tie:

Sharp! Not seen one like that before. Nicely pulled together with the rest of the outfit. From where are your cords?

Last day of finals today!

Puts me in mind of one of the big comedy guys of the Twenties.... for some reason I think Harold Lloyd first, but I can't recal him wearing anything other than a boater? Must have been at least one where he ended up in College garb, though...

What I wore hanging around with my college chums in the city today. Wearing my recently purchased vintage gabardine '40s Hollywood slacks (also the first pair of vintage slacks I've ever purchased).

I think "The Freshman" comes to mind.

Nice pics everyone.

I wore my suit (Land's End year rounder, tailored fit jacket, regular pants) in public for the first time. Church, and then lunch afterwards. It wasn't uncomfortable feeling, and I wanted to get used to wearing one for a while. I'm normally a bit more casual in church, khakis and collared shirts, sometimes jeans. I won't always wear a suit, but sometimes I might.

The last picture's a bit off, because I was standing at an angle, but while the fit's not perfect, it's serviceable. I'm not about to get another suit, as I'm hoping this will last three to four years.

Since the last picture up in the post I'm quoting wasn't any good, here's the best representation of how my suit jacket actually fits (the one picture where I'm standing at a lopsided angle doesn't do it justice). Excuse the jeans, and I'm standing a little bit crooked here too, but this is closest to how it fits naturally.

What do you think, a decent fitting suit? I've had a difficult time trying to find a suit that could fit me, but I think this may be the best I can find within my budget. I can't return the suit because I've owned it for so long (three months), but I will take into consideration some feedback for my next purchase.

I know it's not the perfect fit, but does the suit look like it fits OK?

Good look - well put together. What did you wear over it (I'm assuming it's far too cold in NYC at present to go out in shirtsleeves!!)?

Aha! Thanks - I was beginning to wonder if I was going mad!

...

They aren't cords. They are a sort of brushed cotton. They were made by Spencers Trousers (up in Yorkshire) copied from a pair I had made by a tailor from a 1930s pattern.

Oh! Like a moleskin? How were Spencer to deal with? Expensive?

I could well be wrong, but I have a half-remembered notion that one of the Sheridans had a pair of cords made by them - was it them young Compton-Bassett won a made to measure pair from at one of the parties in the last couple of years?

This was yesterday. I had a meeting with the County Manager to argue for a little more funding for our Soil and Water Board (I'm the Chairman). I don't know if the double breasted suit helped, but we did get the money.

I was wearing an early '50s double breasted suit jacket and brown '50s overcoat. Surprisingly, it was pretty warm that day in NYC, reaching around the mid-50s, quite unusual for this time of year.
