Big Man, I knew you had a megawatt smile - thank you for proving me right. And thank you for your offer of an outreached hand - I am truly, sincerely and deeply touched.

On to lighter things - a well worn Oxford Cloth shirt is one of life's greatest simple pleasures. I, surprisingly for my vintage passion, don't own a ton of things - but I do have a decent number of Oxford Cloth Button Down shirts in my closet - the older the better.

When I was "gainfully employed" (pre-retirement), I wore either a button-down Oxford shirt and tie or a point color shirt and a tie every day. Most of them were white, but I did like to wear a few colored shirts from time-to-time. Of course it doesn't take too long for a shirt to get too "worn" to look nice with a suit in a business setting, but that same "worn" shirt has an awful lot of life left. I now have a drawer full of worn out dress shirts that I wear in the garden, cutting wood, working on the old cars, whatever. I'll wear the dang things till they are so thread-bare they won't hold together. After that, they get torn into long strips and used to tie up tomato plants in the garden.

... What brand is your hat Big Man? It's great! ...

Thanks. It's a hat I got from Miller's close to 20 years ago. I believe it was in their "Raiders" line. After I got the hat, I really didn't like it as a dress hat. I think the brim was too wide for the crown height (or lack thereof). Anyway, it ended up as a work hat and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The sweat band is all but gone now and the lining is in shreads, but it keeps the sun off my head and (I think) goes just right with overalls. Kind of a "depression era farmer" look.

Thanks for the kind words, FF. I know for sure where I'm headed in the next world, but by chance you don't make it there, I'll do my level best to reach down and yank you up in the sky.

Now, here's my attempt to get this thread back on track (well, at least the part that I had a hand in derailing). I've been working on and off all day in the garden, so I have on my usual "work attire" of bib overalls, an old worn-out Oxford shirt, and a fedora that's seen better days.

Also, in the spirit of full disclosure, here is my smile-for-the-camera smile. Like my dear old Daddy used to say, "boy, you smile like a mule eating briars." :eeek:

you are the best!

thank you for posting!!!! :D

(((Big Man)))

your avatar is the best ever!!!! you are the best.

Thanks. That's my grandson and me on a trip we took to West Virginia about six years ago. It was one of those shots that "just came out right." I don't think we could have done better if we had posed for the shot. Like the old saying goes, "even a blind hog will find an acorn every once in a while."

Big Man if you and your family and loved ones ever come to Australia

Let us know Big MaN

Should I ever find myself in Australia, you will be the first person I look for. I would hope you would do likewise if you ever find yourself in the thriving metropolis of Nebo, NC.
