When I go out for food I wear patterned shirts and if a vintage tie is called for always a woollen one!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who strategically dresses for dining, and if I'm home, I'm honestly in the habit of literally just taking whatever dress I'm wearing off, and diving into a bowl of spaghetti in only a slip or what not. Unfortunately, I can't pull that off at restaurants. lol

Overall, I'm not a messy eater - only because my parents were very strict about table manners even at home - but Murphy's Law does apply - a drop of tomato sauce will find a new pair of light-colored chinos like a heat seeking missile. Hence, I always think about what I'm wearing for a meal out and will opt out of the lighter colors or newer clothes sometimes which assures that nothing will go awry, but when I gamble, bam, chocolate sauce on a white linen shirt is a guarantee.

The dress and straw purse are both from the 1940s and two of my favorites (I mean, really, I carry that straw purse with almost everything).

Sorry that photo is a little washed out, it's from my phone. Here you can see the print of the dress a bit better…and me being really excited about summer fruits, like cantaloupe! (Because gosh, when it comes to the produce section, all I really care about are summer fruits, yum, yum, yum!)

Yesteryear, love your whole look…I feel like you could fit right in to an episode of Twin Peaks, which I've never seen but for one episode, but have so many friends who are obsessed with that show, I feel I can adequately make references to it!

Lady B, the dress is really nice (and you have your clothes well tailored - makes a bid difference when things truly fit properly) and the pocketbook is awesome. Straw purses, IMHO, are classics that transcend fashion - never in / never out - always right. Also, the wood floor in your apartment is gorgeous.

Thank you! None of my clothes are tailored (if by that you meant, taken to an actual tailor), however, I have been buying vintage online for long enough now, to have figured out what measurements I want in a garment. Now, granted, it can be a bit tough to find something I like, that fits, and is my price range, so there's an occasional slight compromise on the fit, but I agree with you, that the right fit makes a difference. The straw purse is coming apart a bit, sadly. I thought maybe I could find some place to fix it, but alas, hardly a "straw repair" shop on every corner, beside Starbucks, I guess…going to try a little rubber cement (according to Google this is what should be used?)

And thank you! They're the original from 1888. Definitely my favorite feature in my apartment, that and the superb light!

I have found some craftsmen that way over the years and, in general, it's been one good experience after another as they are devoted to what they do.

On the purse, if you find the right artisan on line - shipping is not a big deal - as it is worth it to have it done right.

As to the floors - I hear ya - I just bought a 1927 coop and it has the original floors which was part (along with several other very cool vintage details) that inspired the purchase. The first architect I hired wanted to "rip those old floors out and put some new flooring in -" he is no longer my architect. (And I told him upfront what a vintage nut I am - they will say anything to get the job and then they try to force you to do what they want.)

What is the story with the garments on the wall? They look like traditional/festival wear of some sort?

Hyena, I really like the zipped polo shirt with that outfit. It's a great way to give a sporty feel to a tailored outfit.

Patrick Hall, the spectators really complement the understated tweed jacket, gives the whole outfit a fun feel.

Here is my idea of an outfit for a heavy metal concert these days:




Modern Lee jacket, reproduction of a 1940s model.
Military workwear trousers, deadstock, with some nice features: very high waisted, buttons for braces, 11 inch wide cuffs, back cinch.
They needed some work, the buckle was rusty and needed replacing, and the hems had a row of grommets for a drawstring which were removed when I had the trousers shortened.

Great looks everyone! HS, I love that zippered polo + sports jacket look. The breast pocket on that jacket is amazing. Couple recents looks, given that spring is here. The second is my favorite spring/summer suit, an unconstructed silk suit made in 1937. Only thing I don't like about it is the wrinkles. Oh, how it wrinkles.

Great looks on both photos! I love that white suit. And those shoes on the first shot! Why can't I find shoes like that!? Awesome.

Great outfit there LAdy B - for the purse you could try ethnic furniture stores, where they could sell other straw ethnic objects, and they may be able to help. Think Thai or Burmese souvenier ships kinda-thing? Also, those basketwoven kitchen seats (plenty in south europe for example), there are a few artisans that do them and could repair the weave on the purse (if it is indeed the weave that needs repair).

Metatron, thank you! I think you must have been best-dressed at that metal concert! As for the garments hanging up, most of them I've collected on my travels across Asia. I wear most of them, except the traditional Rajasthani lehenga and choli, above the dresser, and there's also another choli that is to be worn with a sari, that I don't normally wear. The jacket on the far right is made by the Hmong, an ethic group that lives throughout the mountainous regions of Southeast Asia. They do really incredible embroidery work (which you can't really tell from the photo, but I also have skirts that are so heavily embroidered, they must weigh a few pounds at least).

Metatron, I also have a pair of those Swedish trews and I had the grommets removed as well. Insanely long inseam. They are post-war. I used to have a pre-war model. the only difference was that all buttons were metal instead of plastic. I find me changing into these or other non-wool trews as soon as I come home. I got two adorable black tom-kittens on Thursday and their favorite place is my lap.

Today's "ensemble" (I actually think you gentlemen show much more creativity in what you wear than I, as there's often multiple layers/pieces, whereas, I basically just throw a dress and some sandals on every day).
