PantherMkV, have you ever seen the HBO show Boardwalk Empire? Your look definitely reminds me of some of the ensembles worn by men on the show, and I do mean that as a compliment!

Agreed. I was always impressed with the attention to detail "Boardwalk Empire" took on its period sets and attire.

Nuky's outfits were incredibly detailed and beautiful and yours remind me of one of his. That said, I did read an article years ago when the show first came out that said the outfits were "inspired by the era" but not necessarily perfectly accurate. I always thought they took some license with Chalky White's outfits - although they were incredibly fun to see.

I got a new black jacket to go with my black Aris Allen slacks. Now I have a black suit! I also got a grey fedora. I will post pictures of the hat tomorrow. Note the belt. I got it from TJ Maxx. It's reversible, and it has a brown side too. Nothing here is vintage, except for my grandfather's tie clip.

No photos of the outfit, though it was a modern black dinner suit, with black and white striped shirt, Tall Darcy white collar, silk bow tie, black overcoat and grey Akubra homburg. Am I even allowed to wear a tall collar with bow tie? I don't even know. :eusa_doh:

Thanks for the compliments all. I always wanted to pair this 30s zippered polo shirt with this 30s jacket...wore this to an interview today. Was complimented.

Very nice pictures, everyone! Hyena Stomp, you seem to know how to make even something as serious as an interview look fun, with the '30s casual wear style! I hope it works for you.

Yesterday, I wore my white silk scarf as a cravat, beneath a white shirt's collar, while wearing a charcoal grey with maroon pinstripes jacket and mid-grey wool-lookalike (looks like sharkskin or pick-and-pick fabric) twill trousers that have double pleats and cuffs. I thought the scarf looked good that way, and I've worn it over the shirt collar a number of times before, as well. Has anybody done that with a regular long scarf, or just with specifically a proper cravat or ascot tie? Nobody made any remarks about my cravat style, but I don't think people really noticed it much, just slightly poking out from within the shirt. With it being white, it's not far removed from the white t-shirt being shown, but I think it's a nice alternative.

Great looks everyone! HS, I love that zippered polo + sports jacket look. The breast pocket on that jacket is amazing. Couple recents looks, given that spring is here. The second is my favorite spring/summer suit, an unconstructed silk suit made in 1937. Only thing I don't like about it is the wrinkles. Oh, how it wrinkles.

Wrinkles are good, what else do you expect an 80 year old silk suit to have?

Do you find that very white or cream items of clothing accumulate lots of daily muck (ie seat, cuffs, jacket collar etc)? I don't own any but am tempted to but don't know the level of cleaning care they require.

Ha - almost did exactly that at dinner last night. Caught my fork right before it made disastrous contact. Don't have good reflexes, but apparently they emerge when called for. 80 year silk is tender stuff. I'm afraid to even have it pressed, as the last time I did it came back with the collar torn to shreds, and my tailor had to repair it. Suppose you're right - wrinkles are just part of the game.

I haven't found that white/cream fabrics accumulate enough muck that they need daily washings, but definitely I wash my white/cream suits at the end of every season. Thankfully, linen/cotton/silk responds well to a gentle hand wash. The real problem is that, as TT suggests, you are VERY vulnerable to stain disasters that don't stand out on other fabrics. I carry one of those Tide stain-erasing pens in my glove box as a last line of defense.

Bit chilly tonight, so I got my vintage (not sure of the date) Woolrich jacket, a cotton flannelette shirt, a 60s skinny tie, and 50s navy serge slacks.
