My latest acquisition is this Shudde Bros 7X, I have wanted a black western for a while and this one fits the bill, I even found it in a 7 1/2 LO. It has a 3 1/4" brim, not too big. I steamed and redid the crease after it arrived.

Stetson Tom Mix. Has 4 1/2 inch brim as finished, front and back, 3 1/2 inches on sides and 7 inch open crown. Brim is about 5 inches if flat. The seller said it's a late 1970's hat, but I have no idea, never having bought a Stetson of this recent age. Just bought it because I liked the style.

I appreciate that, Charley even had to ask me if I was ‘in the business?’. To which I responded, ‘No, I just dress the part’
Isn't it weird, but understandable, how having certain professions or lifestyles give you societal 'permission,' to look the part ? I 'm in a local band here and have always dressed a bit differently than the norm, as much to please myself as anyone else, but people don't care, or appreciate it, when you are obviously comfortable and confident.

It is interesting, and I feel it’s a geographically segmented attitude or look. Since we’ve moved to GR a few years ago, wearing full blown western get ups, or even just hats, will attract lots of gawks and muddle comments. Oddly enough, the city is surrounded by farm land and even when I wear overalls to work (at a landfill mind you), both coworkers and customers find it ‘different’. Don’t bother me none

Last Saturday, late afternoon-ish, I got a text from @Randall Renshaw, alerting me to a hat for sale on the Bay. As soon as I opened the link, I realized what it was, and was actually worrying someone else’s fingers would be typing faster than mine, as I went to buy it!

What I purchased was an embroidered lining Stetson that Randall estimates was manufactured between 1953 and 1957. It's in incredible condition, especially for a hat that is somewhere in the vicinity of 70 years old, and is, by far, the oldest western hat I have ever owned.

I’ve spent hours pouring over my digital files of Stetson catalogs for that time period, and have pretty much decided, based on its 3.5” bound-edge brim, the 6” crown, the shape, and the 3X beaver markings, (and barring further input from others more knowledgeable) that this is a Stetson Longhorn, custom-ordered by its original owner with a ribbon band, instead of the standard 6-cord band.

I am absolutely giddy. :D

Looks great on the head, Mark! All 5 of yours do that recently listed here, since I’ve been away from this thread.
