Hey Mike,
I do post at the CAS forums on occasion :) Black hat is a 5" brim and a 5.5" crown. New ash colored one is a store bought, 4.5" brim and a 6" crown. The store mis-shipped me. It was suppose to be a 5" brim and a 6" crown. The correct hat should be here Tuesday:D Hat in my avatar is a round dome, 5" open crown and a 5" brim. So the crown looks shorter than it is. I'm 6'1" 200#. Once you start wearing 6" and 7 " brims in the straw hats and felt sombreros a 5" brim seems tiny. But a 4.5" brim makes a lot more sense if you are getting in and out of a truck. As does a crown under 6".

Both sides of the family homesteaded in Norman and Duncan in the land rush days. So suspect you know why I typically wear open crown hats ;)

Always enjoy seeing your hats. It is interesting you mention brim width and getting in and out of the truck, I prefer wide brims here in Florida, but have been moving towards smaller brims when out because I hate not being able to sit normally and I dont like setting my hat down in the truck if it is full.

Thank you Sir. Fun to post the photos. I don't do a lot of driving day to day. But in my small pickup I pulled out the driver's head rest just so I can easily wear a hat. Likely die of whip lash and a broken neck. But that should be quick anyway :) My Ford F 350 I can't pull the head rest. So hats over a 4" brim go in the back seat often as not if I have to go very far. If I spent more time in a rig I'd be wearing smaller hats no question. I tried adding up the mileage I walk every day around the place. Typically I get in 3 or 4 miles easy enough this time of the year. The rest I do in a little 4x side by side. Plenty of hat room there hahahahhhaaa .

Here is a Bandera brand hat that DeadlyHandsome gifted me. It had numerous moth nibbles and some dirt but a good hat worth saving. My wife, who is a bit finicky about her hats, surprised me when she said yes to my asking if she wanted the hat. It was western stiff all over but the naptha bath and the serious sanding to rid the moth divots turned the crown into a nice soft felt. It is easily bashed without steam I won serious points as my wife loves the hat. I gave it a blue leather band and a buffalo nickel concho to finish it off

Hi
Being in Vancouver, you won't have this problem as bad as we Okies do, but if you sweat much with a blue leather hatband, you may have a blue hat crown too. I have a sun tanned leather band on my Tan Quigley hat so it won't stain. I can have any color on my Black Quigley hat though.

Yes, a small risk as my wife being a lady doesn't sweat! And being a hat reclaimed from the dumpster I only have time invested in the hat....no money.....so no risk.

I the border ever reopens Montana is first on my list and I have a plan to drop into Rand's Custom and look at getting one of his gems.
Ritch sold out & retired about 15-16 months ago. I haven't been able to learn anything about the new owner or owners. I hope it's not another Western wear retailer. At 6'7 Ritch is an imposing figure & fit the bill.

Billings is a nice place to spend some time, in the valley of 5 mountain ranges. Lots of fly fishing & dude ranches. Billings would be a great place to have a summer home. Also if you're interested in nature & outdoor photography Nikon has a school there.
