my posture isn't too bad but I'm self conscious about it because it's terrible compared to when I was a competitive gymnast.

I try to hold myself straight when I can but I can never keep it on my mind for too long

Guilty. I have a similar story of being 5'10", I was always so self concious of my height. I still wear flip flops to work almost everyday so I don't tower over people. I just told my boyfriend last week that I don't care anymore, I am going to buy myself a fabulous pair of patent peep toe pumps and apparently invest in a girdle! :)

I noticed that when I was doing Pilates regularly I naturally stood up straighter. It strengthened all the necessary abdominal and back muscles that helped me stand up straight without noticing I was doing it. For a few delicious months I was slightly taller than my mother! :D

And then I stopped, and now I stoop. Darn.

I've had bad posture my whole life. But ever since I've started wearing a girdle and heels it has improved dramatically. I just keep reminding myself not to slouch because having good posture makes you look thinner and taller!

My posture is good thanks to my mother jabbing me in the ribs each time I slouched over lol I also do an exercise called the Stomach Vacuum, and not only does that keep my waist trim but it props up my back muscles as well.

I've had many instances of people eyeing me and then saying "I would never have guessed you were so small... You always seem tall to me."
Of course, if ever I should show up without heels, it's always a big laugh!

I've always had freakishly good posture. Never really worked at it, didn't really think much of it, but people have commented on it since I was a little kid.

I get a spinal x-ray last year to get to the root of my months-long headache and, come to find out... my spine is too straight! Most spines naturally look like a gentle "S", mine looks like a lower-case l. So, I have posture so good it's bad for me!

My posture is good and I owe that to years of dancing (ballet, Irish, tap, flamenco). Heels do help, although I have to be careful not to stick my bum out too far! Wearing a hat helps too and I always wear thick tights that I pull up to reach my bra, and they give me a lot of support, like a very comfortable girdle.

My posture improved a lot when I was doing yoga. And go figure - my lower back pain went away too.

Wearing solid foundation garments also helps. As Lizzie said, it's impossible to slouch when you're wearing a good girdle.

I'm a horrible sloucher. I sit in a computer chair all day, I'm no longer doing yoga, and I've gotten lazy with my dressing and don't wear girdles so much at the moment. ARGH. People really DO look better with good posture.

I'm another one of those 5'10" ladies who slouched to hide her true height. I sit in an impossibly uncomfortable chair all day and in order to try to make myself more comfortable in the chair. I find myself writing this with one leg on the chair and the other one over it, like the number 4...i'm a massage therapist and should know about good posture. But in jeans and a tshirt, it's easy to get lazy. i find if i am in my vintage outfits, i walk a little taller, maybe its because i feel so fab. That's a good new years resolution, "improve posture"

I think I have excellent posture! I was a martial artist for a little less than four years, which greatly aided my lax self-discipline and posture. I'm roughly 5'8" tall. I'm afraid to wear heels higher than 2". I dream of stillettos, just waiting on that confidence boost.

I do love standing up straight and carrying myself "like a peacock". To me, little else is sexier than a woman who sashays about, looking like the picture of a lady.

When I worked at a grocery store, I'd carry light boxes on my head to "show off". I also spent junior high and high school carrying most of my books on my head through the crowded halls. Heh.

posture and girdles/corsets

I work at Frederick's of Hollywood and I can vouch for the posture improvement when wearing girdles. We have this fab corset that sells like crazy and that is the first thing out of most customers mouths is that they have great posture and their back hurts less. lol All hail the binding fashion of the corset!

How does January Jones transform into Betty Draper?
Well, wardrobe, hair and make-up help. At the beginning of the day I get my hair set in rollers, then I have my make-up done. After that I go back to hair and the stylist puts it in that 50s ’do. Then I go and get into the girdle, the bra with the pointy cups, the stockings, the heels, the big dress…and I look in the mirror and see Betty. My posture changes when I’m in those outfits – the girdle hugs your hips, so you have to stand up straight and take small steps. It’s a little bit of a cheat as an actor, really – just being dressed as Betty I’m already halfway there.
