Hey I thought I'd start a new thread about Retro, Repro, and Golden Era Wedding Dresses and some links of places to get them from. One member had expressed that she's on the lookout for 1930s wedding dresses. So I thought why not put a thread together for her and other future gals that may go in search of a dress with a Golden Era style. I think Lauren and Vanessa recently saw some vintage dresses on their roadtrip, so maybe they will post pics.
Also, if you've gotten married in a vintage style dress, show us pics.

I know Revampvintage.com has done semi-custom wedding gowns as well.

Also, here are some links I came across when working on my vintage wedding planning article series:

http://www.cherishedbride.com/

My friend Rose, from Matilda's Closet, also has a number of lovely bridal gowns hidden on her back rack. None are displayed on her Web site, but I have seen and modeled a number of her gowns, and she has some beauties:

For those who are creative, or who want to have something made, check out www.evadress.com. She has some great 30s wedding gown patterns, as well as evening gown patterns that would translate into bridal wear quite well.

For those who would like to have a vintage gown restored or adapted to fit them, check out this site:

And of course, a quick search on eBay will turn up scores of vintage gowns. Just be sure of the condition and size before you bid. Many gowns may be too delicate to wear for an entire evening of dancing!

Ebay is a great place to find wedding dresses, i got one off there that i wore in 1940's fashion show but you have to be careful of the measurements, especially the length, and if there are any underarm stains!

You should take a look at www.stephaniejamescouture.com. They make truely gorgeous vintage-inspired wedding gowns.

My wedding dress was made by Dark Garden (don't think I'm allowed to post a link.) Autumn can do just about anything you can dream up! Mine was very loosely based on Audrey's in the movie Funny Face but the top section was a corset and it has a matching bolero jacket. I don't have any pictures on the computer...just goes to show how long ago I got married...no digital camera yet! I'll have to scan a photo on Monday.

We had a vintage inspired wedding. My husband looked quite dapper as you can see from the pics. I saw a picture of Fred Astaire and I was like you have to look like that for the wedding! We had a 1940's vintage cake topper that we got from Gulden & Brown (http://home.att.net/~design-house/). They have many beautiful vintage wedding accessories and dresses on their website. I definitely recommend them, the topper was gorgeous! I wore my grandmother's crystal necklace. My dress was new but I thought it was classic looking. It was champagne satin and it reminded me of the vintage candlelight satin dresses. It was made by Casablanca. I got the lace jacket off Ebay, which I modeled after my husband's grandmother's wedding photos.

The crystal necklace...

Our wedding wasn't really vintage, I would say more "classic." I tried to go for things that I wouldn't look at in 10 years and wonder why on earth I went with such a trendy item. lol I selected flowers that I felt were vintage-inspired (although I couldn't bring myself to go with a cascade bouquet), and our cake and invitations were very simple. Btw, I can recommend an awesome and very inexpensive baker for you in Arlington if you are interested! I wore a vintage 1940s blue garter that I found at an estate sale (it was a boxed bridal set of 2, from the 1940s) so I even had an extra for the toss! Our reception was held in an 1890s historical mansion, and we had a vintage guestbook and pen.

That being said, the most difficult part for me was finding a dress. Everything seems to be either strapless or spaghetti strap, or was just way too modern. We were married in November and I really wanted long sleeves and a plain simple satin with minimal detailing. I finally found a Paloma Blanca on ebay that was exactly what I wanted. (Of course, I bought 4 dresses before that... fortunately was able to resell them!) Like Denise, I also went with a candlelight color instead of stark white.

Here are a couple pictures. Bear in mind this was nearly 6 years ago so I had to scan these from actual photographs. lol

If you pick up a wedding magazine these days there's scores of vintage looking dresses. This year and last Old Hollywood was all the rage, and you see big name designers and others as well doing dresses that look like something Gene Harlow would have worn.

I'm getting married in Sept. and I'm having a mostly modern wedding with some vintage touches. My fiancé and I run the swing dance scene in Orange County and our wedding is going to be on the small side but after the reception we are going to have an after party dance open to everyone. I was thinking of ordering this dress to change into for the after party:
