Vintage shopping in Berlin, anyone?

I'm going there for the weekend - any tips for good vintage shops (OK, and other shops)?

As I actually prefer older stuff to new, I wondered if anyone has tips about thrift shops, flea markets, vintage clothiers and places like that.

Also, any tips on fun & games there are very welcome.

I've not been there since 02, but it's a great city. Enjoy!

Ther used to be a great fleamarket / craft market on Museum Island - particularly good for watches, especially a lot of stalls selling Vostoks. There was another great one too, if memory serves somewhere near the Frankfurter Alle U-Bahn or S-bahn stop.

I remember a few other great vintage shops I saw on the way past at night, but didn't get to when they were open. The Time Out cityguide for Berlin is very good on that sort of thing - worth picking up. Timeout.com is pretty useful, too.

I've heard something like that; to really get a close look at life in any particular city, you should see the fleamarkets.

I'm going there in a couple of weeks, so any good tips: Pass them on!

I've been there once before, and my two tips are:
Go to the science museum! The new bulding there has a wonderful exhibiton!

And go and see an opera. They have three different operas, so you should find something you like. If I remembder correctly, "Der comisher opera" is curretnly playing "La Boheme", which we are going to see. Reasonably priced tickets, and well woth seeing. The other operas are palying "Aida",the for that is pricier, and Wagners "The master singers in N?ªrnberg. " Warnig: It is 5 hours long, and there are no valkyris, dragons or rings.

Also, there is a "Panserfahrschule" right outside Berlin. The deal is, you can actually drive a tank! We are trying to book us in right now. I am planning to start taking driving lessons in a couple of months, and what can be better than to kick-start it in a tank!?

Thanks - I'll pass on any tips...I drove a very small tank (APC) in the army (we called it the tank-child), so I suppose the attraction of the Panzerfahrschule is limited for me, unless we're talking about the big Russian ones...

Heh, jsut a long shot - it's the local vintage bicycle club, from a few years ago. We were/are always in the May 17th parade, and such.

Watch out for weekend shopping hours..... if memory serves and the situation hasn't changed, Germany had / has some pretty strong laws protecting the rights of retail workers, and the upshot of that when I was last there was that very many shops closed about 4pm on a Saturday afternoon.
