Saw this one on a Facebook group. I think the poster mentioned that this button up crossover style is common for Australian jackets of the era. First jacket I've seen of this design, seems like a cossack and aviator mix to me, really beautiful. Somewhat similar to the following jacket but also distinctly different in design language.

Following that, another beautiful aviator jacket from the 20's posted via Mushroom Vintage in Japan. It has the most interesting elongated aviator pocket which connects to a symmetrical patch pockets similar to military aviator styles like A-1. Anyone seen other similar jackets of this style, really beautiful and unique.

Hey dudes!!!
I had to pop in and I wish it was with some definitive ID info on these jackets with the distinctive angled lower front pockets.

I recently picked up a black version of this jacket so I wanted to post since I happened to see this topic evolving. Of course — my jacket has no label. In fact—- oddly it’s flannel lined and where the label was is like a glue residue. I don’t recall seeing glued on labels very often if at all. Coulda been a name tag.

Anyway— I’m gonna try to post some pics here from my phone. This jacket hasn’t been even wiped down much less conditioned at all yet so it’s a little rough but obviously great for the age.

Hopefully having a few of these in our hands will help get an ID at some point.

Sorry for the dreaded sideways pic articulation SMH….. better pics at a later date.

Cheers/Prost Bros!!!

PS: I’m sure some of you were in on this

these admiral byrd/montgomery ward aviators sure are an enigma. Theres just so many details that change with each one.

This is the only example of a wool one I could find online. I believe it was posted ~2016. Definitely rarer than the leather variant as I have not seen another one posted online yet. View attachment 652968
I have never seen one of these cross zip wools for sale. I would like to have one.

I’m not sure but it doesn’t look like it to me.

Essentially the same jacket but made out of pony where the others are ‘regular’ horsehide and with different buckles and a different label and lining obviously.

Here’s another variation on this jacket with the Byrd label. Note the low adjusters. Also looks like 4 tucks instead of 6.

They had multiple different makers. I think this is the only label I’ve found with a manufacturer name on it. I suspect at least two other makers.

I have seen this Borman label. We also know that Roughwear used this label. And another unknown? I though this labels was owned by Roughwear. Interesting development.

Another Sears label I haven't come across before, Boyville, that zipper stopper at the bottom looks like an earlier one. I'm really into these wools lately but I haven't found one for myself as of yet.

Seems to be a label for kids, but the measurements look close to a 36-38.

This Boys jacket has the sunrise grommet zipper, no doubt late 30s, early 40s. Young mens fashion often imitated the adult jackets, just a smaller size. This style, from this era is a difficult item to find.

This image is from the 1945 catalog. The first mention of Boysville is 1944

Took a bit of time but here are some photos of the recent 30s admiral byrd that was for sale.

I figured since not many of these show up online, id chip in and post it on here for all of you lovely people! I had put the initial bid at 110 when i saw it pop up and just kept my eye on it until the final moment.

Needless to say im going to be taking a bit of a break on ebay to recover XD

Here are some pics for finding the dare code on grommet zipper assemblies.

This is the zipper pull side

Hard to see without a camera. The letter indicates month of the year. The E represents the 5th letter of the alphabet and the 5th month of the year. The single number is the year.

This example is May, 1933. This jacket has a label not registered until 1938. So the item needs to be seen as whole with other dating variables considered.
