these admiral byrd/montgomery ward aviators sure are an enigma. Theres just so many details that change with each one.
This is the only example of a wool one I could find online. I believe it was posted ~2016. Definitely rarer than the leather variant as I have not seen another one posted online yet.
Saw this one on a Facebook group. I think the poster mentioned that this button up crossover style is common for Australian jackets of the era. First jacket I've seen of this design, seems like a cossack and aviator mix to me, really beautiful. Somewhat similar to the following jacket but also distinctly different in design language.
Following that, another beautiful aviator jacket from the 20's posted via Mushroom Vintage in Japan. It has the most interesting elongated aviator pocket which connects to a symmetrical patch pockets similar to military aviator styles like A-1. Anyone seen other similar jackets of this style, really beautiful and unique.
