The Super Monza has a more aggressive taper than the Racing Jacket or Super Sportsman…..maybe for the next one ?!

Since I had already asked before ordering, but got the answer that they are very similar from the pattern.
But LL has already strongly tapered. From 61 cm P2P to 50.5 cm hem.
But yes, the Super Monza in dark brown sheep I could imagine well. Without the pocket on the sleeve ;)

I still have not worn it outside the house, but I’ve probably worn it inside for 3-4 hours along with gently massaging and kneading the leather for a few hours while watching TV.

It has arrived.
First impression... very nice color, although a bit greener than expected.
The leather feels great. Very soft, smooth and supple.
Workmanship at first glance flawless, nice big and sturdy zipper. Should be a #10.
Lining very nice, sleeves in gold top.
Two things I need to get used to...the cut is pretty boxy. Is tapered to my desired size, but P2P is 2 cm larger than specified (61 instead of 59) and the taper only really increases in the last third. so I have around the belly quite a lot of material, which is a bit fluttery without belly ;-)
In addition, the length is still 1-2 cm too long. I usually have 67 cm back and + 2 cm front drop. Since it looked like the jacket has as good as no front drop, we went to 69 cm length to be on the safe side.
Now it is "too long" by exactly these 2 cm.
Which is of course nittpicking, because I'm sure if the jacket is break in or I to a T-shirt still pull something underneath that will fit well. And style wise it is seventies and must be this way.
Good photos I still have to make. Also, the color looks better in real than in the photos.

I think it looks pretty awesome. What is the leather?

Congrats Mr.Proper looks great, i can see it is a bit more relaxed than your usual fit, but some room will make drape and creases happen which is the thing with skin such like sheep, and perhaps with age and perhaps oiling it will look browner in the future since it is vegtan.

Thank you for your thoughts.
But no, I will not send it back. I like it far too much for that.
It is cut differently than my other jackets and therefore unfamiliar, but not bad at all.
Besides, variety doesn't hurt.
I am sure that I will wear them often.

The British Racing Green (which would be my pick for a first Lewis as well) looks even better than I expected.

I get what you mean about variety. I have both bespoke English military tailoring (sharply structured with space in the chest that tapers in, then waists out) and American sack jackets (straight, unstructured cut whether slim or not). I love both.

You might want to ponder the older Monza - it is not openly available on their website anymore but they will still make it on request - as that is both shorter and more tapered than the SM or RJ….here is a shot of my old one from the 70s - it might be the sweet spot for your frame? Also, it does not have the sleeve pocket…

I don't think it will look any browner.
It looks to me like the leather is dyed through.

Yes, the Monza is definitely more my choice. It was marked as unavailable on the old website and it's no longer on the new one. But I would still ask for it.
Thanks for the pictures. Very pretty ;)

Is it ok to spray LL veg tan cow hide with rain protector?

Are you thinking of using a silicon-based waterproofing spray?

I’m not sure it would ‘stick’ and it might be disastrous.

if you really want to try increasing water resistance then I would try a little Obernauf’s LP in a discreet test spot for a few weeks to see how it goes.

I don't know if I need to increase it or not. I've read that veg tan leather doesn't repel rain as well as cxl. Just wondering if I get caught in the rain if that's a bad thing...?

Pecards is another option, but honestly I would not worry about it. Veg tanned hides will still protect you from a light shower and a bit of water will do wonders for shaping the jacket to your body.

some of us get our jackets wet on purpose to speed up the break in, get more creases, etc. So it's not like the old Jerry Seinfeld joke about leather shrinking and cows screaming every time it rains :D

The tricky part is not the getting wet part, but how it dries. You want to hang it in cool place, not crowded, etc. Ideally, you wear it dry and it'll form to your body.

That's an expensive jacket. TBH, I'd ask LL to see what they recommend, but Pecards is a good recommendation or anything beeswax based. It'll give you some initial protection, but probably have to reapply often if the jacket is going to be used outdoors in harsher conditions. I got to think a century plus of jackets have gone through the foggy, wet England weather and come through ok, so chances are, you probably need nothing.
