I’m going through the same thing with my “used” Hardcore Hwy. A little spray, wear it for a few hours, repeat.
I also use some strategic lanolin. Just a tiny bit rubbed into the elbows and collar. I mean a TINY AMOUNT.
On the padded Hardcore I also hit the quilting. VERY lightly.
I find it lets the jacket hinge just a little, but it’s a lot more comfortable to wear.
I also like to put a little wax on the cuff edges and where the collar folds over. The first places to get rubbing wear.

The amounts I use are pea sized, and it’s probably like a magic incantation, but it’s never failed me yet.

I’ve dealt with over conditioned jackets before, I’m not doing that.

I can't imagine how stiff the padded areas are!

This is the very batch of leather my Enfield is made of. After months of wear it looks fantastic with a grain very similar to old broken in jackets on ebay. That‘s a thing many people for some reason forget with Vanson. They expect new jacket to look the same as broken in ones but we all know and preach it all the time for Aeros - your jacket never looks as bad as on the first day and all these beautiful vintage Vansons were lifeless black monsters in their first months of wear as well and only developed into what they are today.
Could you post some pics of your jacket ?

No rush JJ. When you get a chance … Like to see how the leather is aging . So many different comp weights and they all age their own way …
Some better than others…imo

Thoughts on the Vanson Mohawk? I've seen a little bit of discussion in past years, but not much. I'm interested in buying one.

^^ looks sharp to me, I really like the functional but attractive back design. Never seen one in the wild.

it’s too late anyway, but does anyone know the sizing of the Vanson Benrus “long waxed jacket” (another Stormer variant)?

I know the Vanson Large is huge, like a 46” plus 4” of ease.

The butterscotch Stormer Vanson is a 44” with, I’m not sure, less ease?

I have a Benrus on the way so I’ll know soon enough.

This is so true! Maybe more true with Vanson than any other maker honestly.

I’ll stop spamming this thread but I have to say this is probably the most geeked I’ve been about a jacket in a really long time. It’s not anything special to look at. Actually quite banal from a design standpoint…. Maybe I’m just waking up from a suede induced comma but breaking this thing in has been fun. Quite a ways to go but a spray bottle and a couple hours of wear each day have really brought it along.

that's an amazing jacket
They look a little different than the one I bought years ago.

Mine has leather sidewalls on the pockets, and leather gussets on the sleeves.

The pockets make a ton of sense, the bottoms of pockets are where you start to see holes first, but sleeve gussets? Why make the part of the cuff that folds out of material that’s stiffer than waxed canvas? Mine’s an El Salvador build, might have something to do with it.

But it’s a great jacket! The lining pattern might be my favorite part. :-D
