I also much prefer steel hangers to the more flexible plastic version. It's not a common occurrence but I have seen the plastic ones break and I don't want that jagged edge poking into any of my jackets. It's far less likely that anything might go wrong w/ a bundle of steel hangers (wrapped w/ pipe insulation). View attachment 654756
sometime the skin peel off and exposed cheap metal wire will quickly rust especially if your jacket has some dampness after being worn. , if you want to do this then wrap it around with tennis racket grip tape or dropbar tape for cycling. they add volume and a bit of cushion and protect the wire from staining the liner, and use plier to roll up the tip of the hook(s) so it won't scratch another jacket next to it when you browse around your jackets

Interesting. I live in a semi arid area where it's pretty dry most of the time. Nothing rusts in my closet but I can see that that might be unusual. Thanks for bringing that up.

I live in warm and very humid area, everything grows, things quickly oxidized and mold is also a problem, i often get this plastic laminated wire hangers from things coming back from dry cleaner and I usually put it aside to probably repurposed to bind plants or to replace the hook on xmas tree decorations because here it is often green, but somehow my helper used them to hang my tshirt and it rusted into the fabric from a peeled off parts of the hanger, I chalked it off as character to my t-shirt and keep wearing them, but I mention it as a caution for a jacket liner

They're only 17.5" to 18" wide, the standard ones online. The custom ones I got is 20" wide. Very difficult to find wider ones. Specialty retailers only stocks the 19" wide ones, and they're not cheap either, like 20 bucks a pop for the 19" wide ones. The container store.
With pool noodle it's easy to get 20" width on a normal hanger that is only 17.5" wide.
