The Resistol Roundup

I may have posted this before. If so, forgive me. This is the Resistol “Plains” that belonged to my wife’s late Stepdad.

Even though it was her stepdad that hat should be on the Untouchables list. A Plains has got to be pretty rare I would think.

Veach Saddlery was originally located up somewhere in the Chillicothe or Trenton, MO area (off the top of my head). They were also known to have made some boots & other leather goods. I think it was the grandson of the founder who moved operations to OK, around the time bootmakers left Olathe, KS for OK.

That is a fine looking "Plains", I haven't seen that color. They have nice dimensions. The family connection makes it even better.

Thanks Ed! Unfortunately it doesn't fit anyone in the (current) family, so it is a display piece. We have the original box, but it is in rough shape.

Edit: My wife said "No ya dope! That was my real Dad's hat. Back when they lived in Albuquerque." I sit corrected...

Her Stepdad would have worn a hat more like this:

Any more info come out on the Royal Order of Texas White Hats? I have one made for Kyle Rote (NFL HOF) sold a while back with his Stetson 100.

It just arrived - the certificate signature is authentic, not a stamp. Hat is mint, felt is nicer than my 7X Stetson (feels nicer, anyway). I give up and will now be wearing a genuine cowboy hat in public...at times.

A nifty Resistol wide ribbon hat in grey. With the underwelt brim at a good 5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent this could be considered a stingy, but it doesn't appear that way. I like the way they made the underwelt look like a felted edge from above; very clever. My third Resistol hat; I like them.

Not sure much about this hat but for 50.00 I’m really happy with it. Only two tiny tiny little moth divots but no holes

The only info I received from resistol is that it “may” be a San Antonio, but it was most likely open crown and hand formed. I have 3 Stetson open roads between 1950’s , 1960’s and a newer one. I now have this one but. I really have no idea its provenance. Anyone care to elaborate any ideas?

I believe the info I received from resistol may be from a youngster and going off what ever is in the computer, however here we have a plethora of individuals who have a greatness of combined wisdom. My only other older resistol is a 1980 or older Black Gold... which is before they put the x’s in those.

kewl story I’d like to share. So my grandfather was a very well known doctor in Houston Texas. (Dr. Benjamin Geringer MD) he knew many people as a doctor and friend. Even was a friend of AJ Foyt.

On my first trip to Arizona he offer to take me to The Hat Store in Houston where I met Gary Cohen who father Sam Silver started the company in 1915

This is the hat I ended up getting in 1980
Not a great roping hat but man things hat has held up really well for only a 3x

I added the pin about 10 years ago

Beautiful hat, and a great score! The dimensions could be the same as a San Antonio, Resistol made many models that were similar. The ribbon does not look like a San Antonio to me. Here are some photos of my San Antonio, that appears to be of similar vintage.

I don't think it's an SA, based primarily on the three-ply ribbon. Without the block number on the re-order tag, impossible to tell. Certainly originally served open crown and nice example of an older Reistol. Great condition, too.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

I appreciate all the input. I have a few different hats of similar shape crown height and brim width but I wear this one now primarily. Again thanks... tge only tag I have is in the image says to duplicate mention this number. All the number I found I put online here so that’s about it. I saw the size and figured with the bound edge it May be a SA based on resistols email. Thanks though. I saw a kitten 15 on etsy today under vintage resistol but it is too small for me. Looks really nice though
